• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1973 360rt

The pain has been delivered, called John LeFevre and he informed me that, YES, the 2023 motor top end is NOT compatible with any other. He does have a standard size cylinder/w piston and head. He also has a used set cylinder /w piston and head for less. Thinking of selling my 2nd 450 motor to fund this 360rt. But what about all the other parts I don't have? Lights, hangars for the blinkers, etc. Am I young enough to source the parts needed? Oh the humanity!!!

good luck with lights. I found one set of blinkers with the mount a few years ago. The price was ridiculous, something like 399.00 for the rear set. I'll go without blinkers, thank you!

I can't afford to build the engine, let alone look for over priced one year only parts that are part of someones retirement plan.

I have a 360 cyl and head but I think it's 4 speed I'm in SJ if you want to take a ride down and check it out

Take a look at this before you buy anything else. You are close enough to take a ride with your bottom end and see if it will fit. All other choices are cost prohibitive.

The main point being made here is that Husqvarna used many carried over parts to build RTs back then. While the cylinder and head may have only 73 & 74 part numbers, they were likely carried over from the round case 360 Sportsman. It is worth your while to check this out. I am not bashing John Lefevre as I have nothing but admiration and respect for his work. Because this is his livelihood and not a hobby his services cost more.

Thanks jimspac, I'll have to pm Auto to find out when we can get together. Pretty busy, bike show sunday and the floor in the freakin boat!! Still have to detail a few bikes, I'm a gluton for punishment!!20170601_141056_resized.jpg20170601_141034_resized.jpg20170601_141006_resized.jpg

IMG_20161228_135305734.jpg I understand your pain been restoring the 250 in the back now for about five years to find all the parts. You have to take your time. Check on CEV parts for lights. I had three RTs and know how it is.IMG_20161228_135305734.jpg IMG_20161228_135305734.jpg

The front bike is a 360 all original down to its Trelleborg tires. The handle bar switches are Lucas, the throttle is Tommaselli.

The show was good til 130 when the rain came in. Lots of great vintage cars. A few bikes. The Husky was a hit with a few who remembered them, but sadly most thought Husqvarna was a chainsaw company. So I fired it up anytime the said that and they were so impressed they got the f--k outta my sight. The older guys were impressed with the way it dispatched the girly men and women with kids hiding behind them to a quieter spot down the street. The Indian got a trophy, and I sold the Honda to a guy who had one in Africa! Pretty cool weekend, but the wifes vehicle is making more noise than the Husky, so looks like I have more to do, the bolts wouldn't budge..heat, PB, hammer, nothing. Cut the bolts short enough too put the new gaskets on and then used some beam clamps to finish them. When I get a chance I'll do it right. But it's nice and quiet for now.

I finally found a cylinder for my 360, unfortunately I got jammed. The bore is 82.42. So I figured a light hone and the last size piston. After the light hone there it was, a huge scratch in the liner. It's going to be well over the last piston size for that yr. My question is, can I use one of the later 360 pistons say from 76 or later? Or will the reed/non-reed be a problem?

Unfortunately later 360 models won't work. In fact early models won't work either. The 360RT has the same size piston as the 1969 to 1974 400 piston. At least that's way I recall it from when I rebuilt a 360RT years ago. Crap, how I wish I had a better memory at times.

I also recall the 72 73 450 piston having something to do with 360RT compatibility. Parts list show that the 450 wrist pin bearing and keepers have the same numbers as the 360RT.

Oh well maybe someone else will step in and clarify what I'm overlooking, like maybe I'm nuts.

Do you think I can bore it to 450 std at 83.92 and use a 450 piston? Then I'd have a sleeper 360. And 3/450 motors.. I'm gonna corner the market!!:busted:Hahahahah

I had to replace the sleeve on my 360. Someone had dropped it and broke the bottom off. John leferve had one.
Photoguy, my 360 had silver forks on it. The guy I bought it from said they were original. Your's look like 74 forks.

I found a cylinder and piston for the RT.Less than $50.00! Looks like someone did some mods to both. So I think i rebuilt this bottom end and added the 6 speed but can't find the build book for it. After looking at the motor i can see it does't have a new center gasket so thar's why no book. Here's some pics. Can you identify the piston make?
