    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

1976 Husky 360 WR Done

Well I purchased a nice 1976 360 WR from a forum member thru ebay. It is done and going to be a very capable trail/enduro/harescramble bike. I decided to keep it original since they are only original once. I believe I actually peeled off the original Metzler from the back.

Kept painting to a minimum. So I guess its about 98% Original. Only new pieces are Carb 38mm Mikuni, tires and tubes, the shocks look aftermarket but dont know, original Magura controls, cables etc... Repainted fenders and Preston Petty light made some adjustments, lubed bearings, fittings, tightened little things here and there and it is done.IMG_0816.JPGIMG_0832.JPGIMG_0828.JPGIMG_0833.JPG
 
The shocks are not original and look too long for the straight leg forks to me. Other than that (and a seat cover) it looks great!
 
My friend bought the same bike back in 76 we had more fun wheelieing around on that bike, it was a challenge to keep the front end on the ground.
 
Your bike came with a metal airbox cover in 76
I am absolutely sure you know more about it than I do but I've seen stranger things than a plastic air box from 77 being fitted to a 76 bike (very late serial no. if that matters ML15679 I think). There just is no evidence anywhere on this bike that its been messed with. The shocks definitely are something makeshift they are 15" eye to eye what length should they be? And I like the seat cover, matches the scratched up tank perfectly.
 
I was just going to ask what the center to center length on the shocks are as I am putting together either a 76 or 77 360wr. I like to looks of the higher ground clearance. I wonder of the 15" shocks will start to cause irrregular handling due to error in geometry of the swing arm? If those shocks are o-k to run, I would compliment the front suspensio with forks from an 80's wr.

If you've ridden a modern bike what causes irregular handling on these is they are 36 year old. Handling is a relative term also front wheel is in the air a lot lol!
 
Well, I am just wondering if putting in shocks that are a couple inches longer would affect the rear handling over rocks and roots which is what I see in western Massachusetts. My regular bike right now is a 2007 Husaberg FE550e. WER reworked the suspension. I know I am not going to get close to the handling of this bike. However, I wonder if the change to longer shocks would be negative or if there might be some improvement.

The longer shocks may help the bike steer a little better in the tight stuff but I think they would be a hindarence to the high speed handling. This bike had a 32 degree rake in 76-77 then they changed to 29 degree on 77 MX and 78 all models if you look at the frame on 78 you can see the shock tabs are facing up about 3/4 of an inch. I had a 76 250WR and the shocks were around 13 1/2, my friend has a 76 360 Auto the next time I see him I'll check the shock length.As for the cover Husky changed to the plastic for the 77 MX for better breathing and airbox volume. Husky or Husky Products also made an extension that moved the cover out about 10mm and with a snorkel affair on the top.I have one on my 78 250CR.
 
I've got a 76 360cr and a 76 360wr both have stock shocks on them and they measure 12 3/4'' eye to eye.I also have a 77 360wr burelson replica i bought new it came with 14'' eye to eye curnutt shocks now there is a good shock.
 
The stock eye-to-eye length for the '76 is 330mm, or about 12.9". 15" is way too long for the '75-'76 frame with the downward pointed rear shock mount.

Sorry to seem stupid eye to eye means center to center? top to top, bot to bottom? Also are the shock mounts different on the Burelson?
 
Eye-to-eye is center to center. In '77 they moved the upper mount so it points upwards instead of down like yours, but I think that was only on the CRs, the Burleson should be the same as yours with the downward pointed mount.
 
center of the bolt hole to center of the bolt hole.I noticed the mag cover is from a different bike maybe a 77''250.It looks like a new mikuni carb to.The rear fender has holes in it.The hole pattern is that of a preston petty light lens and socket.You can get an exact replica of the lens and socket from Stickly Hodaka. paul stannard bought the rights to preston petty products and is reproducing them at a good price. I just got my new lens last week and it fits perfect.
 
A burelson replica was set up by the dealer it came with solid aluminum bars, preston petty light number plate, rear fender w/light,route sheet holder,24mph clock like yours,mikuni carb and curnutt shocks.The dealer just stripped the stuff off a stock 360wr and put the new.
 
Again I'm going to state you guys know 1,000 times more than me but I do know manufacturing. If by the end of the run of 76's isnt it possible that the coming 77 parts like the air box and mag cover would be used on any remaining 76's vs making more of the 76 parts for a couple hundred bikes? This bike just doesnt have the feel of one cobbled together.
 
Your bike is by no means cobbled together, the parts on it were improvements over the whole line for the 76-78 years. the only thing I see is the shocks are not correct.when I had my 76 I put a PP Headlight on and a small tailight and brake light switch.
