  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1977 360 auto

So I had the motor in the frame and found it would not roll over, it did before. I pulled it out and pulled the cylinder and the motor at the bottom of the stroke would not budge. Pulled the side cover and was pleasantly surprised at the condition, very nice , no broken springs and the shoes look brand new! Tried to move the crank, no go . Looked at the crank bearing behind the main clutch and it looks great. Pulled the seal retainer on the ignition side and there it is, a rusty bearing, the stub don't look good either. Ahhh, another full disassembly. At least I can rebuild the crank! It needs paint too!

Gear box looks really good and that's the bit that matters with an Auto, looks to me that the ignition shaft will clean up okay as well.

I took the motor apart today. I found a good ignition side crank bearing in my stuff, so that will get installed. The rest of the bearings in the motor look good, even the freewheels are in excellent condition. I will put the crank on the lathe and video the run out before disassembly and again after reassembly. I will be interesting to see what the difference is. I hope the big and small bearings and pins are serviceable. Then a slight sand blasting and fresh paint. New seals and a complete set of gaskets. It should look awesome in the newly powder coated frame.

Got the 360 crank rebuilt, both the stubs were replaced. The rod big pin and bearing are in good condition. I took video of the crank before and another of the final tuned crank. Once I get the new bearing in the case, I'll be able to reassemble the center cases and crank.

Does anyone know the original length of the shocks for this bike ? The shocks I have are ohlins and I don't believe they came original on this 360 Auto. Thanks Chris

I used Alcaro&Alcaro in Montclair NJ. I'm taking this stuff in this week after cleanup. I'll let you know what they charge me. The last batch was smaller and they charged 75$. So I figure around 100$ for this batch.
How do you like the link on this brake?
Also Drew is done with my shocks, should pick them up Friday.

I went out to WER on Thursday and picked up my shocks from Drew. I just want to tell everyone that Drew is the nicest, most humble guy I have met in a long time. He was patient and answered my questions and concerns. He is KNOWLEGABLE and was concerned with my application. On top of that, when he had a question, HE Called Me to find out what I thought! Novel concept!! I just want to thank him for his work and the service he provides to us fellas who can probably do a shock rebuild, but are reticent to jump into that pool. Thanks Drew PS I recommend his service to everyone!

Also has anyone seem one of these spacers for the air box? It is not shown in the parts diagram. Aftermarket? Oversized air filter? It's about a half inch wide. Chris

Was the k/n filter bigger or what? 86 400 xc makes sense with the separation from the filter. Just want to know what I can about it. Can I still get a k/n filter set up for this box? thanks for the info. Chris

Thank Mark, this came with the cage and the spacer so i don't think they had the lid. I like the idea of the solid/car style filter like on my 450. Maybe I can find a crossover at the auto parts store. Thanks for the good work guys, now I feel lazy!:o

Yes, all are correct above. The spacer is for the K&N filter and you do need the lid for it as well. The K&N is a little fatter filter than the foam one, thus the need for the spacer. I have one on my '77' Auto as well. These where the ticket back in the day. Many people don't care for them these days. I'm still runnin mine though.
