• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1978/79 Husqvarna 250 OR restoration/restomod

I am waiting to see the results of all your work ,because I just purchased a 1978 250 OR as well and will be going through the same
process after I ride one ARHMA race in May.Then its to the bone as you did for full restoration.

Does your 78 OR frame have the extra tube on the bottom and Timken Bearings? My friends have a few ML framed Autos with the extra tube on the bottom and they were sold as 79's but I don't recall if they were 30.5º rake.
As far as I know, the 78 ML OR frame was the only ML frame with 30.5° rake and has a distinctively different lower engine cradle. My 1978 390 Auto had the leftover 1977 CR frame with ball and cage bearings and 29° rake, The CRs and WR had the 29° rake, but with Timken races and roller bearings. The OR frame was special for the desert racers. I am sure if the 1979 Auto still had the ML frame it was a leftover 1978 or Husqvarna may have used up the ML frames on them. After reading a few tests on the Autos, it was apparent the Husqvarna used some older inventory to build them to curb the high prices they initially sold for. The Auto was perhaps the only Husqvarna to become less expensive as a new model

That is actually an '82 250XC that I bought new from Lojak's cycle in Taurentum, PA...... when I picked it up, we went into the sales office which had a shelf lined with ISDE helmets that their guys wore through the years, pretty cool! I have slowed in my progress as I am prepping our house to move, looking to upsize the lot and garage!

I glass beaded both the head and cylinder, then used etching primer, then PJ1 Engine paint. Forrest Stahl recommended the PJ1 and says it's tough stuff, going on his word.
