• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1980 WR 390 Rescue...

I'm with Euro, SnoDrtRider, I'd encourage you to keep contributing to this thread. Don't let the nostalgia and posturing stop you from updating. Your build is looking good, I want to see what's next.

Sorry about the derailed thread SnoDrtRider. I was enjoying your build, please keep the updates coming.

calm down boys, its an old husky 390....

Old husky just try the hill climbs or flying down the straights. I sold a '79 390cr to a kid in the neighborhood and he beat every newer 250 that tried to hang with him. He said the 390 ruled the hill climbs. There's no replacement for displacement. I'll shut off my putter now.

While the frame is at the powder coaters I am cleaning and painting... Did the triples and bar mounts today and reassembled.

I picked up this parabolic IR heater at Horrible Freight to warm up the parts prior to spraying and to help cure the paint.

nice..ever try putting your paint cans in bucket of hot water? works pretty well too..i guess thats more about getting it to flow. some fresh paint will sure help tidy things up

Paint cans in hot water was an old tractor painting tip. Brush hot paint on and the lower surface tension eliminates the brush strokes.
Works pretty good with POR 15

This morning I stripped and refinished the headlight... Love these old French lenses! It's hard to believe this survived 37 Years and 1800 miles in the woods!

I have been looking at the speedo laying on the bench for quite a while... I used to tinker with watches and clocks when I was a kid so I figured a speedo is not much different so today I decided that I had nothing to loose and opened it up.

Before...

I forgot to take photos during the opening process but the Bezel that holds the glass to the case is a brass ring. You can see mine was rather dented up. Working from the back I simply pried the crimped edge loose all around and popped the ring off. If you are careful you can reuse the ring as I did.

Here it is all apart... The speedo had something loose inside that I could hear when shaking it. Turned out to be the two screws that hold the drive part to the front half had fallen out.

This is the silt I flushed out of the mechanism with WD-40 and Electronic Cleaner... The bucket lid was clean when I started...

All back together... I managed top get the worst of the dents out of the bezel... Looks pretty good!
Yes the face is cracked from the front end bouncing around without being attached to the drive which holds it to the case but still works.
A nice coat of satin finish black and it will be good.
