• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Didn't do a lot today... Replaced the stiff hard as rock Motoplat wiring sheath with a nice supple and soft silver one...
Cleaned and organized the shop in anticipation of the frame being ready soon...
that flywheel seems to be bolted WTH i'v never seen that on anything

Yep... previous repair... good eye! It works so I'm not touching it if I can help it!
It is also an SAE Bolt... I would think that at one point someone tried to remove the OEM nut in reverse (CCW) and snapped off the end of the crank where the nut would thread on. I don't know why but it works so I am not going there!

A bit of a snag...
Powder Coater says everything looks good but he is not happy with the swingarm and is going to strip and recoat it because he would not be happy with putting it out.
The pics have a gold/yellow tint due to the lighting but everything else is done... Likely I would have never noticed the swingarm but my guy is a fanatic just as my painter is.

Someone told me they didn't care for powder coat because it is too thick and hides the welds... Sorry but I am not seeing that in this work...

thats not gonna  work is it?? its left handed for a reason

Had many bikes through the years that had RH thread on the crank nut, never had a problem although this is the first with a bolt. It has a key so chances of it coming loose due to inertia of the flywheel are slim.

i bought a bike from my friend someone had drilled/tapped a 1/4" bolt in the end of the crank. holds fine, altho metric would have been a better touch.

I usually like to let sleeping dogs lie... If it ain't broke no need to fix it until it is. This one is a 9/16 head so 5/16 bolt... yeah would have been nice to have a 10.9 grade metric bolt in there but it is what it is for the time being.

9/16 head is usually a 3/8 bolt in your normal grade 5 or grade 8 bulk fasteners...1/2 head on a 5/16 bolt, 7/16 on a 1/4 bolt.
when my friend bought his swede with the crank end "mod" we pulled the flywheel and key, lapped it, and reinstalled. always held fine as the taper does the long term work, all the bolt has to do is press it on. that little grade 5 1/4" bolt has worked fine, even if it is rh thread. actually, once the flywheel is pressed on sufficiently you could likely ride it with no bolt..

Oh yeah duh! I've only been wrenching for 50+ years brain fart on my part. 3/8 bolt... :banghead:

lol, impressive the fellow got a 3/8 in there for a repair. i dont think youll have any issue getting that to press the mag on.

I don't know... I could be mistaken... now I have to go down and fit a socket on just to satisfy my own curiosity... Sucks getting old things I used to do without glasses now require glasses and a measurement to comfirm!

Boy ain't that the truth :D

Is that powdercoat on your bars? Everything looks great.

Yes... The guy is a magician.
I was told by some that I don't want Powder because it is so thick it will hide the welds, etc. I think there are way too many commercial powder coaters out there that lay it on real heavy and cause problems. This dude has it down to a science. I would have him do my tank if I could.
