• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1982 250WR...for vintage motocross?

Thanks!

A couple of young guys stopped over to look at in the pit area. They couldn't that I could get 'air' on an old bike like this! And they thought that it must be really heavy; they were surprised when I told them it weighed about as much as their 450F bikes.

Like I said before these old bikes are looked down upon. Now go out there and run that old husky and make us proud. We don't need no stinking valves.

Now if you find your rpms with the wr tranny aren't staying up high enough as you shift up gear wise go smaller on the front sprocket. This would keep the rpms up in the middle/meat of the power band. You have six gears to play with till you get it right. You'll never hit 6th gear unless you have a long straightaway.

Well, my first race with the new 250 went down over the weekend and I think it went okay. Some jetting changes might be in order. The plug was kind of yellow and the power up top…was a little weak.

A couple of times, the bike seemed to run like it was out of fuel…it was very brief, just a second in time. Then it was fine.

Is there a chart somewhere that lists what the original jets and settings were? I guess that would be a good place to start. FWIW, I am using Golden Spectro, with race fuel, at 50:1.

From the Technical Data Sheet, in my 1982 250WR owners manual... Main jet: 400; Needle jet: P8; Idling jet: 45; Needle position: 4 from top; Airscrew opening: 1.5 turn from bottom position.

From Racing Handbook 1982... Main jet: 410; Needle jet: Q-8; Idling jet: 45; Needle position: #4;Air jet: 2.0; Throttle: 2.5; Needle: 6F16; Air screw opening from bottom position: 1.5.

that doesn't sound ideal:eek: .check all your gaskets and inlet manifolds for leaks, at least drop the needle 1 clip to give it more juice. the crankcase seals may need attention if it starts running on when hot.

go up a couple of main jet sizes and see if it runs stronger. ps do 1 thing at a time....

Well, there is a slight crack in the boot between the carb and the manifold on the cylinder, so it looks like that needs to be replaced. Anyone know where I can find one? Initial search is turning up empty-handed...

If You go to e-bay and find a guy named Hotfootmoto He makes a modern replacement that I have used on Maico's. Its well made and works well.

Okay…finally got after this issue. The manifold rubber piece was, as I mentioned, slightly cracked…and in addition, the two hex bolts weren't very tight. Possible problem? So far a settings, the needle clip was in the middle, so I lowered the clip (raising the needle). The main jet was a 420…interesting. I have left it alone for right now. Riding later today and will come back with a performance report.

if you say the power up top was weak, i would work on jetting the main first, then work with needle. very good you caught the loose intake tho.

Also…the main jet in this carb didn't look like any of the smaller Mikuni main jets that I am familiar with. Will I have to get a jet from a Husky dealer?

Ignore that...main jet is normal size. I didn't have my glasses on!

Riding now. Plug is slightly more brown. I am going to lower clip one more position and check again.

That made quite a difference. Seems to just pull harder...

Plug is a little darker as well. Might still try a another main jet size, but I think I am only way.

When you got get a nother main jet. Stop by nursery and get some sod for your yard! Or momma ain't gonna be happy!

Yep...thanks to all. The riding season may have ended in Nebraska today, so I will probably not be able to experiment with the main jet until Spring. And there is no momma in my house to nag about such trivialities like roosting in the back yard!
