• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1983 XC500

Does anyone have a better transmission section? The one from Husqvarna-parts is pretty vague, or do I have to use the parts list as a guide and use my visuals to access the usability of the parts I have. Ouch! That sentence hurt.

I've seen some mention of these, but what makes them so good?
do a quick search on the forum here..if you have questions many here can answer them including myself..but theres alot of info just here on the cafe.
they are a nice smooth easy to tune carb..make good power too

What kind of replacement kick lever is out there for this 500xc. I'm going to change from the Bull Horn and think as long as it has the big spline it should work. And the longer the arm the better. Also is there an external flywheel ignition?Any advice is welcome. Chris

definitely ditch the bull horn...they suck to operate and also put excessive stress on the kick shaft...swap a liquid style aluminum arm or even one of the straight steel ones (four stroke?). much better, especially if you are not short.

best setup is the whole sidecase and all from an italian fourstroke..

Do you have a make or model? I am not familiar with those bikes. The whole cover and kick mechanism will just bolt on? I did find that power dynamo makes the external rotor system. I need to work more weekends. Thanks Justin.

My 84 500wr has the straight steel kick lever and it just kisses the rear shock springs.

The most original looking cover is from a 1991 610 without the removable outer clutch cover, but if it's a rider, use the other type.
Tony.

Early type.

just grab an 84 - 5 straight lever and go from there....external flywheel is good, more inertia when starting and a slight ..tiny..possibly noticeable reduction in the 1 million horsepower that is generated when the throttle is opened 1 micro millimetre....good luck with that!!

Any kicker off any Husky 250-510 will work 1983 - 90's, there all the same.

When you get to the carb, it has a special throttle cable, it's NOT the same as the 430, so make sure the slide opens and closes correctly.
The 430 one is too short so the slide will not close all the way, making it way too hard to start, and usually make it run lean & it blows up, don't
ask how i know.

Also when you got the motor back together adjust the timing, to the Husky service update bulletin, not to the standard spec, or you'll
be kicking it alot...

Are they LHD, the few Tony? Who would want to bang gears with a left hand :excuseme: I know i could not.

Most are converted to RHD Steve, it was the only way they could be registered for many years. They can now be registered in LHD, makes overtaking "interesting".
I drove a friend's Corvette in LHD, almost hit a wombat, not a huge animal but like hitting a block of concrete!
