• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1984 WR400 help

will have to check in the garage and see what my parts boxes say...do your shoes have the stepped notch where they go around the round pin or are they just a round cut-out? one shoe is a bit wider here than the other... i believe thats the only difference. they are all the same diameter

thanks guys. going to make a few calls tomorrow to EBC and that vintage husky parts place, to verify/order.

anybody know where i can find replacement gas tank decals, headlight bulb, and speedo?

check your pipe and muffler for an obstruction and repack it. im out to a430 on the main jet but up 1 clip on the needle with 75 - 80 :1 motorex full synth. bikes runs sweet on an old top end. also look at your air filter for collapse.

the plug may be changed for an egv as they are better than an es. may be contributing to a loss of power but they usually start missing

get those radiator stickers copied....they are unobtanium....don't worry bout the tank decals as they will just peel off again if you ride it regularly, just stick a couple of "h" stickers in the tank. don't stress about the speedo if your riding it, it will only die again from vibes or a crash. if you get a good one, keep it in a box....

enjoy a great bike

thanks suprize!

Brake pads are ordered (ebc 801g, as confirmed by ebc, amazon 22 bucks!)
i am waiting on a paypal invoice for a bulb ($24, ouch!)

decals and speedo arent a must, but hoping to make my fathers old bike mint soon, but need to get it riding right first.

i didnt want to mess with jetting because its how he left it and i assume it ran right. i remember seeing him wheelie it when i was about 10 years old riding a pw50.

air filter is mint as i replaced it last year and rhode once. it was collapsed before that

next week i will have good brakes, take it for a test ride where i can open it up, and re-test the compression.

updates to come, thanks to all for the help!

+1 suprize

"check your pipe and muffler for an obstruction and repack it"

Especially the muffler. Found a mouse nest in mine once, it was blocked solid!

Looks lIke I lied guys. Compression is 162ish. Timing is at 22 degrees. Advanced I assume? Is that too much and is my issue?

If not I guess the last thing left as said above is clogged muffler. When this is answered I'll change timing or pull muffler if I don't already. I had the pipe off a few years ago and it was clear.... for those rubber mounts which as I said before some are broken, but I don't think are my issue (leaking exhaust before pipe).

lol, 162 is more normal. like i said earlier, it will likely be around 180psi with a fresh ring.
im not sure about the 22 degrees as i time mine at the piston with a dial indicator but the service manual here has the spec for both readings at the piston and at the flywheel.
might as well pull the silencer and repack/inspect. a good packing is very smart for troubleshooting or jetting.

430 is 17 degrees or 2.2mm but should be easy to look up for your model set it to more retard for a bit more top end, looking at the engine and reed photos everything looks almost brand new.once you have ruled out the intake, engine condition, exhaust which i think you have then try ignition.
Would still recommend doing a leak down test just for peace of mind esp if your going to be revving it hard.

Thanks guys, think I found it as u all said. Muffler.

I belive the baffle is broken so wouldve been misaligned causing a huge obstruction. And I assume there should have been packing?

Looking to buy a muffler (and packing) asap. Also would love to get the headlight bulb numbers. Then I should be in business

Stormer, as I believe I previously wrote, air filter is a few years old but brand new. Probably 10 miles on it

Would re pack and reuse the original the packing will hold thingd in place just clean any bunged up screen holes if you buy the am make sure it has a spark arrester.

Any 2 stroke packing? Like the fmf stuff on ebay?

Was hoping for a bit more detail... am I right that this was likely the issue? Where did my packing go? I would like to use a non broken baffle if possible....
