• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1987 430 barn find. Need some help.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, The hva case fits fine with nothing in it. My kick starter shaft was slightly bent. I have a new one coming in the mail. So I have 3 possible problems right now. 1 its just the kick starter shaft being a bit untrue. 2 it the case being off were the kick shaft goes through or 3 I messed up when I put my sleeve in the inner case for the kick shaft to ride in. I am hoping for one or two, because I dont want to do a full tear down on this bike just yet. I do plan to but not until I wrap a few other projects up. I will Keep you all posted.

FYI, I did manage to get my clutch cover back on today. After paying attention to my shift return spring, I realized I couldn't get it to position correctly to put the cover on, pulled it, compared to another one I have around, and the spring was in-fact sprung. Just sharing for awareness of one more thing that can make it hard to put the cover on to check before completing a full tear-down.

keep us posted on your progress

I fitted the new kick shafts in the case today. I was able to get it on but it was off and in a bind. I am going to have a machinist friend look at it. He thinks maybe he can realign it to work. If not I will be hunting down a left side engine case 16 19 699 02 I think. Anyone have a decent one for sale, or know were to purchase one?

I'd give your machinist friend a shot before shopping very hard, particularly if your case is otherwise good. It shouldn't be too hard for him to find the center of the seat by measuring with the clutch cover on. After that, with the right tools, I don't think he'll have too hard squaring up the shaft seat.
If you're intent on shopping, you might find a NOS case on HVA-Factory, but otherwise you're looking for a good used case, and if one of the forum regulars doesn't have one, then you're stuck on eBay, and potentially inheriting a whole new headache.

Thanks eric. More bad news. The main cases are bad too. So I am trying to hunt down the last and right case pieces. My buddy says after that he can make the cover work no problem. So project on hold till I find the crank cases lol. Bike looked good at first. I think this is as bad as it can get lol.

Just watch for stripped threads, chain damage, magnesium rot and case sleeves loose where the swing arm bolt goes through.
If anyone else can offer any that I've forgotten, please chime in.
Tony.

looking at the very first picture on this thread your forks are White Power or more commonly known as WP 4045
look at the axle clamp area for cracking on the forks before you ride this, people over the years had a tendency to over torque these

I got A new case, thanks to a member here, very much appreciated. Today I swapped all the parts over. I am waiting to bolt it together for good do to 1 bearing I need, which should be delivered tomorrow. I have a old motoplate ignition that is in bad shape. spark is weak. What are some good options. I am looking at 2 hva http://www.hva-factory.com/lighting...-ignition-system-internal-rotor-type-2-stroke or this http://www.husqvarna-parts.com/catalog/item/3736881/4179072.htm Big cost difference. I have read on the forums people liking the powerdynamo, has anyone ran the hpi one? As for the rest of the bike, I got the seat done, all swing arm bearings done, shock is the a local shop here being rebuilt, and all the cylinder work is done. I hade the intake and exhaust mildly ported and polished, the transfer ports done as well, new sleeve from la sleeve. I had a shop I trust here do the cylinder work because i dont want to screw with the port timing and have it hard to start. Its coming along slowly, Ill try and get some pics posted soon.

sounds good...the bike will be worth it. these are nice bikes when built right, and you plan on actually riding it.

Has anyone ran the external rotor type from HVA-Factory? I am trying to decide on it, the powerdynamo or a new motoplate???

Here is a few pics. The frame is done front forks are done, I had to re anodize the inside. I will post some pics of the frame, forks rear tire and the rest soon.

I had some trouble getting this machine to start. Thought at first it might of been the hva ignition. After some testing and a timing light I found it was firing right. I swapped out the v-force reeds from hva and it started right up. I talked to Andy about this and he cant figure out why it made a difference. Has anyone ever used the V-force system from hva? I am going to put a little break in time on the bike get the rings seated well and reinstall it and try again.
