    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

1987 wr430 new lease on life

Frame back from powdercoat . It's artic white . Looks a bit more modern/crisp than the original white .
Started making up the bits to fit the magura hymec. Think this was off a honda . 55 mm length . The length really doesn't matter . Was going to get the magura mounting kit that replaces the gold cap on the back . There's nothing in that cap so I drilled a hole in it and put M6 bolt the right length out it with the head ground down . Feels nice . Magura offers a kit to do this anyway . They are quite cheap but nothing available over these ways .
There is nothing inside the gold cap . It merely seals off the cavity that the piston can travel into . However it must not actually be "sealed" as this would create an air pocket you would be compressing every time you pulled the clutch and would probably mess with the auto adjusting it does .
You will need to make a nipple like in the bottom left corner of the image . I just cut some shank out of a M6 bolt as the stock nipple is 6mm round .will make or source a brass one at some point

Here's my solution to spherical bearings that are too much effort to find in this part of the world .
All will be doubled up with a spacer between them and inside seals removed and gerase nipples fitted .
May fit washer or rubber washers to the outside or o ring between the outsides .
Only other cause for concern is localised wearing due to low rotation mainly on the front of pull arm . Packed full of high molly grease it should last ok . Even if I have to rotate it once a year or replace it every 2 years it'd be ok . Bearings are 15 dollars

be good to get an update on this one, good plan, hopefully no side load issues pop up...otherwise why would husky utilise sphericals in the first place? hope it works out ok, simple solution
 
I was wondering about the side load as well. Other bike manufactures use needle bearings in the linkage so maybe it's not such an issue. Like you said, keep an eye on them.
 
I think the main reason for the sphericals is they last a long time in a rough environment .also they don't mind repetitive low angle or rotation use
Don't think there's any side movement. There is no reason to be in the pull link . And the top shock mount is offset to the centre of the bike so that should be ok also
There's plenty of room in there for needle rollers and sleeves in there but all that doesn't quite come easily enough to my hand to go that route yet
 
Had to move house recently . And my Ute got stolen . Had both my shock springs in it .
Anyway . Got my seat cover and stickers from evomx . Will have suspension back from shop in next few weeks .
Seat cover is nice
Linkage bearings all seem to fit in ok the v shape link I spaced evenly on the shock linkage . It was slightly off centre in the frame . Still within the mount though so it has 2 washers on one side and one on the other . All moves freely 20171111_145824.jpg
 
did you get the ute back:confused: also grasshopper?? seeing a kicker lever i am not:eek:...whats going on there?
 
No sign of the Hilux at all. 90s Toyota diesels get stolen all the time here and most are being exported to the middle East.
I have a straight alloy and a straight steel kicker . The alloy one is on the cr500 and the steel one is on the bench next to this . Was more excited about the pwk carb
 
thats interesting re middle east exports...you should watch some of the us army clips ...might see it being blown up!! good luck getting the kicker back on right...i removed one once! NEVER AGAIN:eek:
 
The kickstarter assembly has a routine to it, but not too bad. First time I pulled a 430 clutch cover, I of course removed the kick lever to do so... duh, right? Nope. You remove the cover with the lever still assembled. Was the darnedest thing I'd ever seen. Parts and spring flying everywhere. Those crazy Swede's.

Well it's been a while but I'll be riding it by next weekend .
Has drz400 forks and front wheel atm .haven't got round to rebuilding the twin chamber rm forks yet .
Will need a stiffer rear spring but that's easy
