    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

1988 Husqvarna 430 whats it worth and is it any good?

never had a vintage husqvarna but i ran into a ad for a 88 husqvarna 430...not sure what model but he said it runs good and everything is there for $800
he said there is a problem with a shift that the kick started is hooked up to that needs to be replaced does anyone know what he is talking about??

what should i look at while checking this bike out....what should the power feel like?? any known problems ect ect

are these bikes worth anything??...it does have a front light on it that looks stock
 
ALthough i'm a big Husky fan, late 80's where not to popular, as the 88 & up bikes were the 1st year they were made by Cagiva in Italy. Because of this some parts can be harder to find.

The 430 is a awesome motor for enduro & for trial rider, but vibrate like a paint shaker when rev'd up high, so there weren't very good MX bikes.

If the bike got a headlight it's more then likely a 430WR or wide ratio,making it the prefered woods model.

Make sure the problem is the shaft, as many times the spring loaded pawl snaps off & jams the gears up,sometimes breaking the cases.

Here's a document which shows the pawl,it's the dog leg part on the upper part of the case,which turns when the shaft is turned or when u
kick the bike over.

Another problem with the water cooled huskys 85 & up 2 strokes,when the water pumps leak,they can cause the engine cases to rot out, making them junk.

$800 sounds like too much to me for a bike with a possible expensive fix required. I think i saw that bike on Craigslist, & it's been on there
couple of times,unsold.

I have a 1988 WR430 and it is made in Sweden. The bike is exactly like the 1987 model. The biggest problem I have found is the kick starter gear needle bearing failing and the gear jamming against the case, just like ruwfo stated. So pull off the left side cover and check the upper right gear and case for damage. The case is very easy to remove with six or so allen head bolts. The kick starter and gear shifter stay on the case and don't need to be removed. I did a 100 mile woods enduro with the bike this past year and it was a blast. Vibrates like crazy as already stated. The '88 WR model didn't get rubber mounted handlebars for some reason, but the inverted fork model (CR430) did. Doesn't make much sense. The front brake is fair at best in the woods, and pretty bad on the street. I have found the rear brake to be pretty good, but needs constant attention. The 430 engine is pretty cool. Feels like a 4 stroke down low with a 2-stroke hit about mid-range. You don't need as much clutch action to ride it in the woods as compared to other 2-strokes.
 
I have a 88 430CR and its been a great bike.. I find myself ridding it more then my Earlier 430s.. There were a few things it needed when i first bought it ( Piston, Shock Rebuild, Fork seals, and Water pump Seal) But since then its been a blast.. I have had
no problem getting parts.. I would say get it!! 800 might be a bit high though..

WR430 Pictures

Does anybody have pictures of their 88 WR430? I just picked one up and the guy didn't know the year or model. I checked the VIN and I believe it is a 1988 WR430. It does not have a front headlight. Where would be a good place to order parts for this bike? Thanks! Chet.
 
There is a VIN breakdown on husqvarna-parts.com. May be a picture of one there also. Thats is a great site and they have alot of parts.
 
I just posted a pictue of one with a dog in front of it in the vingage show us your bike thread a couple of days ago. If it has the tank with attachment via small bolt in front of the gas cap it is 87-88. If it has suspention with 10 inches give or take instead of 12 inches give or take it is a wr(unless it is an automatic ae or perhaps a four stroke). Though I have not bought much in the last couple of years Halls seems to be the best place.
