  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Many red/blue/other dealers carry those shims, but last I checked the kits from Motosportz were quite affordable compared to local shops.

That is the best value. Hot Cams has a set, but they cost a lot more because you get so many sizes. The motosportz one has just what you will need for your TE.:D

Are the '06 TE450 the same as the '07 TE450 (thread question)?

I also have an '07 manual as they did not have the '06 manual in stock so I'm wondering how many spec differences I might encounter.

I believe they are 99% identical and in the head/valve area they are the same

I too believe there weren'y any motor changes. These are the only changes I know of between the '06 and '07.

Color scheme from blue/yellow to Red/Black
'07 got a new kick starter
Grips
Seat got anti-slide
New auto-decompression system
Whole suspension system has new calibrations
The price went up 1K

The big change came in '08 with fuel injection.

I was wondering if the valve shim diameters are the same or if they changed them between the years. I see that the 06 and 07 TE450 uses a 9.48 mm OD shim and I wanted to know if the 09 TE450/510 uses the same size OD diameter shim.

Yes, 9.48mm.

The only exceptions since 2006 would be the new lighter 250/310 4st, and the 2011 new models (eg 449) which will not be out for a while yet. I've no clue what they use.

If you are poor/cheap like me you can buy them pretty cheaply as singles from these guys ... http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p...e&webCatId=17&keyword=SHIM&prodFamilyId=26634. But the kit from Motosportz is really the way to go. Whatever you do don't go to your local stealership if they try to sell you the yamaha/honda etc factory shims for $9-$12 a piece like mine tried to charge me. If you are lucky and have a decent dealer nearby you may be able to exchange your shims for the ones you need for free or a small fee. It's definitely worth asking about next time you are there oogling the new bikes.

That's a bummer. I only have a 7.48 mm shim kit, guess I will have to get the 9.48mm kit as well. Thanks for the replies.

If you no longer need that 7.48 kit I would be willing to pick it up off of you as I use them on my 04 SM450R.

Unfortunately I still need that kit for my sisters WR250. I will probably end up getting a shim kit from my work so it's not too big of a deal. Thanks for the link to the cheaper solution.
