  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 2008 SM /WRE Water pump seal replacement

check if you have leeway on the bearing

the seal does normally last quite long yet if the bearing starts to get play the seal will be pushed in the a zone that it is stretch beyond its working area.

if the bearing have to be replaced you are looking at taking a bit more off then only the water pump cover.

Damn it!You kidding right??
Seems like MOST get away with just the seal, but now you are saying it could be the bearing****************************************!
Have you changed the seal or the the bearing ,on your sms?

Most of the times it just the seal yet a seal can be damaged due to excessive wear caused by a bad bearing.

If you take the seal out check the bearing (it might and probably is OK) yet its not a nice thing to change your seal in about a half years time again only to find out that bearing is the culprit.

Me personally did change the seal on my WR as it was leaking.

3/4 years later I did do a complete engine overhaul (as the crank went bad) so i changed also all the bearings in the bottom end

the bearing for the water pump was still OK.

when the seal is out just check the bearing for play (put the little axel from the pump impeller in the bearing (as it is normally installed and see if you have movement).

the seal is able to take a 1 to 1.5 mm movement and still perform its function.

at greater plays it will eventual wear out.

I understand and makes sense to always inspect the bearing play as well as the impleller or any other parts that one removes. Thanks:thumbsup:
Just waiting for parts now and then I will update.
