  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

!!!2008 TE510 sidestand solution is here!!!

Hey all,

I just wanted to share some super exciting news. I reached out to Scott at Semco Designs, as I saw that he may be working on a fix for the crappy stock sidestand on my TE510. I think we all know the issues here. When I would ride with friends, I was the guy who had to find a rock, piece of bark, stick, beer can or just lean it agaist a tree. And the damn thing would still fall over sometimes! It was driving me nuts. So anyway, I have a 10 day trip planned for Colorado and Utah and just couldn't fathom the idea of all of those get-offs and worrying about keeping my bike off of the ground each time. I PMed Scott to see where he was in the process. He wrote back and asked if I would be interested in testing his prototype which is essentially a later model aluminum stand with his own fabricated mounting system. Well let me tell you-IT IS PERFECT. Perfect lean angle, perfect balance, perfect in the soft stuff, perfect position when folded up and as a bonus, you no longer have to lean the bike past verticle to the right when retracting it. This was something that also bothered me, but I could live with it. Oh, and installation time was less than 5 minutes-true bolt-on...

I just wanted to share my excitement and what a pleasure Scott has been to work with. Thanks again Scott!

I'm not sure what his plans are for selling them, but I can only assume he will sell a bunch. Give him a shout. He's my new hero. And no, I'm not affiliated in any way. Just a happy customer.

This will definitely be a hot seller! It looks very simple and straight forward with not much to it. It's amazing someone hasn't made something like it sooner.

Scott is definitely a thinker and a do-er. That looks great and I appreciate you posting the info for us '08 owners. Guess I've gotten used to looking for that perfect spot to park like you mentioned.

Edit: Just noticed your stock exhaust guard. If you have the means, I highly recommend replacing it with a P3, Motosportz or Uptite unit to prevent frying your favorite riding pants and/or skin. Even the Husky plastic version is better. Sucks to have a hole burnt through your $130+ Klim pants if your know what I mean.

Nice. If that is steel get it plated.

I hear this complaint a lot but did not have an issue using the stand on my 2010 TXC250 or 09 WR125. Is it different? What was it doing stock that you could not use it?

Thanks guys for the supportive post.

The adapter bracket is stainless steel. It wasn't practical to find a plating or coating that would hold up to wear that occurs in the stand pivot area. I would have preferred to make it from aluminum for weight savings, but again there is the wear issue even with hard anodizing. The bracket weight is about 5oz.

All of the other parts are stock Husky parts from 09, so if you have 09 or newer or you want to order parts from your dealer, you'll just need the bracket.

I'll post something soon when I have cost and availability.

I have an '09 and would be happy to buy this bracket. In stock form, the kickstand sucks. I'll look forward to your post describing price and availability.

Subscribed!

Is the '09 kickstand any different than the '08 leg? I am developing a warming hatred for my stock kickstand. (TE450, '08).

I have been trying to get someone to make a replacement since February 08. Yesterday I finally gave in and cut my old stand up and had it re welded so it will function properly.

So these steel brackets never made their way into other peoples hands? I was under the impression someone was kicking out a bunch of these and everyone with side stand problems would gobble them up and all would be well.

I basically stopped working on our kickstand project when I saw this one. Does this mean I have to start working on it again?

YES********************************************************************************! PLEASE********************************************************************************!!! Ask anyone who rides with me how much I HATE the stock kickstand :banghead: If for no other reason, for my husband's sanity, please provide something better. I like the idea in the original post where I just have to install a bracket - looks easy enough to do. :notworthy:

Signed,
Desperately seeking a new kickstand

Colo moto I'm with you on this one! I was under the impression that these were going to be produced and sold to the community soon. I still need a fix and I'm sure more people do also. First guy with a good product will have my business that's for sure.

Does anyone know if the TE510 and SM510 have the exact same kickstand? Basically asking if this product would work for the SM510 as well.

I have an '08 510SMR and the kickstand sucks on that bike too. If you lean it over to the right the stock stand will fly up and then the bike will come crashing down if you don't realize you inadvertently flipped up the kickstand. Not so worried about me doing this but more when I park somewhere and someone needs to move the bike or in a parking garage, etc.

The TE has a much longer side stand due to the longer travel suspension and taller wheels. The frame and way the side stand mounts is the same though. No idea if this adapter would work with no other mods but I am pretty sure it would work if you were willing to add or subtract from the side stand length as necessary.

I added about 3/4" to the length of my '08 SM510R side stand and it is much better but is still a flawed design due to the side stand being at a poor angle. The auto retract can easily be defeated by cutting off the post that the spring contacts. Most people do this mod.

Thanks jlk. Not sure I'm equipped to start adding or subtracting length from the stand. Would like to see if I can find an after market solution that guys are happy with and available for sale. If anyone has a good one out there you have my business. The stock stand doesn't even hold the bike up properly even without the scenarios I mentioned above. All you need to do is give it about 1 finger push from the right side and it will topple right over. Thx.
