  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Thanks jlk. Not sure I'm equipped to start adding or subtracting length from the stand. Would like to see if I can find an after market solution that guys are happy with and available for sale. If anyone has a good one out there you have my business. The stock stand doesn't even hold the bike up properly even without the scenarios I mentioned above. All you need to do is give it about 1 finger push from the right side and it will topple right over. Thx.

I was right there with you. I waited for over 2.5 years, but I finally decided to take matters into my own hands. Here are some before and after pictures of my bike on the stand. A good wind would tip over my bike on flat pavement from either side! I once got a slow leak in a tire, and the bike fell over in the shop, because the stand would not hold it up with a flat.

I took off the stand and cut the head off of it. Shortened and angled the tube. (you may not need to shorten yours, I had my suspension lowered a little by Les) This was just a matter of trial and error until it looked good. I also took a large adjustable wrench and twisted the mounting tab so that the bottom of the stand is out farther from the bike when down and closer to the bike when up. I also welded a large washer to the bottom of the stand, so it wont sink into soft ground as bad.

Since I shortened the stand I also cut the tab that holds the springs and just hooked the springs through the existing hole in the top of the tab.

Here's an update I just received from Semcodesigns:

"I have a design for an adapter plate that corrects the lean angle and usethe 09 Husky cast aluminum stand. I had some problems with the first batchmade. I'm in the process of having more made. It will likely be another 3weeks before I have the new ones."

I have the same issues as everyone else with my '09 TE510, but have another idea for your builder. I swap wheels from dirt to Supermoto quite often. With the dirt wheels, the stock stand allows it to fall over when hit by a light breeze and with the SM wheels (17"), its totally useless. I've considered finding a SM model stand to swap out when I do the wheels, but I hear they are crappy, too. An adjustable-length stand that works for both would be worth some serious cash!

I would buy one of these in a heart beat, slight gust of wind and have to keep an eye on my bike so it doesn't topple over and everyone else's around it, so much attention to detail on these bikes, and not the simple things like a kick stand.

Did this project fizzle and die?
Any other solutions before I start bending and grinding my stock stand?
*Fingers crossed*
