• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2008 TXC450 back 2-gether and feels great.

well the post surgery break is really now in full swing. from fully assembled to very disassembled in a couple of hours. My 2008 TXC450 has @ 200 hours, this is the first motor o-haul.

Referring to the engine and only the engine, you are doing all this because U have the money to spend and the engine is not knocking or anything else bad right?

What is that piece of gold on the CARB?

I think I'll try some the spray for the lnkage and swingarm bearings as a way to keep my swing arm on the bike and not not taken off for repairs :)

PS -- I'm glad to see someone beats their swingarm and chain guide up more than mine ;)

the gold piece on the carby is another secret weapon,,, its the powernow splitter also the intake side has the powernow plus splitter, the carb is JD jetted per James spec for our average altitude and temps with his recommended leak jet and and the oring on the AP arm, also there is the 7602 vent line filter and the discontinued powershot AP body is on it too. I am sure that things can be more finely tuned but my carburation has been bullet proof, and I have only used the hot start at most 5 times, she always starts and runs with no issues even under extreme conditions. ALso the PN creates mega bottom end torque for clean.

I've got the JD kit now ... I actually need a 40 pilot jet but the 42 is ok ... no problems starting or anything it just does not feel really clean at the bottom ..

I should try that PN device ... U have to buy 2 pieces? Where did you get it from?

more fotos for the show, had the hyde skid plate stuck on for air/drain hole mod positioning assist. also really need to clean up the frame foot peg hoop rock smash area.

Wow a whole new meaning to rode hard put away wet! Glad to see the husky has held up well!

I cant see what you are trying to show with the piston pictures? Just so I know for my own knowledge!

There is minimal wear on the piston skirts. Nothing alarming....thanks for all the pictures!

Yep the piston looks ok for 200 hours esp when it looks like she has been ridden pretty hard. Robert when she is back try putting fully synthetic two stroke oil in your fuel. At a ratio of 100 to 1. it really works wonders for the bikes top end. it helps cushion the valve seats, lubes the top ring, does not smoe, and keep the fuel in the tank sweet for longer.

I swear by it. my iridium plug has not fowled, I beleive the engine runs smoother. I hope I am not kidding myself.

finally laying out all the parts,
just had Rob North weld the counterbalancer shaft drive gear onto the crank. I was not happy with the OEM press fit no woodruff key set up and its potential to slip under load.

Also for those wanting to lose crank weight there is press fitted flywheel weight on the crank that weighs a ton (have not weighed it yet). If I was an MXr that would be a sure thing mod, for quick spin up.

need to clean up the welds with dremel and motor reassembly should commence this week. see table 5 in the parts catalog for parts reference, note again I am installing the SMR counterbalancer shaft into my TXC.

This is a little interesting ...

Update

Cases are back together with CB shaft installed and rebuilt crank all new bearings and seals. Cylinder is back on with new piston and rings, head is back on with new exhaust valves, cam chain, cam chain guides all new seals. final assembly is now underway. need to burnish frame motor mount attach points from paint.
new bearings partially installed in suspension linkage and swingarm.
new rear tire, wheel balanced. New rear wheel bearings and seals. up front all is same except new front disc.
Will reinstall chain and sprockets but really shes needs at the least a front sprocket. Cant think of more right now
(been riding the 610 alot)

robert- yer pistons pics are a testament to your dilligent care of that machine and husky's robustness. good job taking care of her, she saw the maximum effort and output from your right wrist for a LONG time bud.

Update
Motor is back in chassis, new crank/rod(rebuilt), new piston, new shift drum, new seals bearings, gaskets, SM Counterbalance shaft assy. got a couple of loose ends but should be up for riding this coming weekend, if I can dial in the slave cyl issues. Crew keeps asking when I get off the TE610 and back to the TXC, may just show up with the TXC for a surprise.

We all have our own things, mine is 1/3 unleaded VP 100 street blaze race gas mixed with the 92-3 premium pump from VP/Chevron/76/Shell (always premium brand). As much as practical, sometimes just premium unleaded.
And I use by choice only Maxima Maxim4 15w50 oil and all Maxima products exclusively.
