  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2009 TE 310 Electrical problem

I noticed during my last ride that my display stopped working then notice that all my lights, signals and horn weren't working as well. I had blown my 20A fuse...I replaced it and everything seemed to work fine for the few seconds that I was testing it before parking the bike for the week. The next time I went to start the bike I blew the same fuse instantly! Is this a common problem or has anyone experienced a similar issue. Just want to narrow it down before I start taking my bike apart!

Thanks, any help would be great!
Dan

I had the exact same problem with my 08 TE250. Drove me nuts until I finally figured it out....it was the horn shorting out. I took the horn off and never had the problem since.

Had similar issue with my 09 TE310. It happen on it's last ride before the first service so had the guys at Husky Sport look at it under warranty ..... Think they re routed the wiring. Thought I had a Friday afternoon built bike but guess it's more common than that! Best of luck Dan....

Thanks for the info guys! I just took it apart today and did some tests, it pretty %$#$ up. The brake light is on and doesn't respond to the foot or hand brake when pressed. The large headlight bulb had a crack in the glass and started to smoke the stopped working. When you press the high beam switch, the brake light will flash or turn signal (rear only) buttons is causes the brake light to flash while the bike isn't running(Key in on position only) and normally the bike must be running for the signals to operate. Everything was perfect and nothing was tampered with when this problem started, I was just out on a ride and did some shallow water crossing 10-12inches max. I'm wondering if there is some sort of computer/relay that controls these functions and has been damaged with water because I don't think a short in a wire would cause this behavior?!?

Is there a break in the loom? Wiring worn through anywhere... Have a good look where it runs by the frame or if there are any zip ties. Remove ZT's and tape the loom to the frame if possible, overtight ZT's cause problems.
Have you plugged it into iBeat to see if a fault is showing? :excuseme:

Is it still under warranty Dan? Husky's here come with two years warranty so I got my local dealer to fix it rather trying to fathom out the peculiarities of the good old 'magic string'!

For info, when mine went wrong I'd just filled up and spilt a little fuel which ran down the tank. It pulled away OK, started to splutter and then died - same fuse issue as you. I thought it was the fuel shorting something out but turns out the wires in the headlight cluster had shorted. If you can't get the dealer to fix it, do as Brock mentions check for stretched and worn through wires.

Thanks for the info guys! Mine is a 2009 and it came from the US with only 6 months of warranty. Canada started with 2010 models and your right, they come with a 2 year warranty! I'm going do what "Brock" suggested and go over all the wiring I'm also going to clean all the connections and put a Silicone Dielectric Grease in them which prevents high voltage arcing, Provides superior corrosion protection, lubricates and protects against moisture and is not done by the factory.

Don't know if this is any help, but I had some of the same symptoms *after* my headlamp bulb blew a few months ago. Replaced the bulb, and everything came back normal has remained so.

Well hopefully that's the problem...but no place here in Vancouver Canada carries that bulb so I'll have to wait and order in on-line from the US

Just google Eiko 6235B for purchase convenient for you; that's the bulb I used. . . since I had a bunch of the from Thumpertalk for my Yami wr250f. It's a 12V 35/35W halogen. I ordered 6 of them for like three dollars each.
