  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 250 valve adjustment

ACK! Just got off the phone with Hall's. I was looking for some guidance on checking/adjusting valves on the new motor. Apparently, it's not as easy as the old motor and the shims are not the same!

Now I need a shop manual... and naturally, no one has them yet! :banghead:

Hmmmm I just got off the phone with a dealer that has one (2010 TC250) and I may be getting it this could be a little more to think about.

I wouldn't let it stop you from getting one. I'm sure the procedure isn't any worse than the Jap bikes, but apparently not as easy as the "old" 250 motor and it uses different shims (no big deal either).

My frustration is the fact that I can't get a shop manual yet. I wanna check my valves! NOW!

My local dealer confirmed it isn't quite as easy as years past, but still easy enough and not a dealer only item. I think you have to remove a cam or gear, but I don't think you have to disassemble much to do that.

Thanks NC and Kreig but now I am getting the old cold feet with the two that won't start and no shop manual thing. I think if I could find a new 09 CR125 I would pull the trigger on that at least I would KNOW exactly what I am getting. Well I am going to make a buy today but I am not sure of what.

Picked my 2010 TXC250 up yesterday. I don't see the issues with checking them. Pop the cover and use a feeler to see if they are .006 / .008. To swap out the shims you pop out the cams which is EZ because they are gear driven so no need to mess with the cam chain. I bet the shims are the same as something else like a Honda or something. Once you have one out it will be as EZ as matching them up to something as a local dealer.

What else do you need to know?

I'll bet they are the 7.48mm shims like the Yamaha 250f, instead of the 9.48mm in the current motors.

I have both kits if you need some...

Are there stamped marks on the gears to align TDC?
