    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2010 TC 250 front brake locking up?

Hey guys I was riding our 2010 TC 250 around today and the front brake locked up after riding about 10 minutes or so. I had just jumped off our MX track to make a few woods loops and wham front end locks up tight. I thought I had a tree limb in the front end or the tire came off! After looking over the bike a few minutes suddenly I could roll it again and didn't know for sure if it was the front brake or what. I rode a few more minutes and right before I was going to wash the bike it bogged as the front brake locked up again. This time I could tell the front tire was sliding due to brake lock up. Any suggestions on what might be causing this? BTW the bike has 30.1 hrs on it. Thanks, John
 
I would flush / bleed the brakes with new fluid. Sounds like you might have some dirt or something in there that is preventing it from relieving pressure. Also make sure you don't overfill your m/c.

Yep original pads. The bike has been sitting a month or so. Thanks Jim for your suggestion and I'm real glad it didn't happen on the MX track. I was at the house by myself and from a previous crash I can say the ground is HARD!
 
So I took the top off the brake res. today and the rubber gasket thing is very swollen looking like it's lost it's shape and oversized. I'm not sure if this is normal but it doesn't look right to me. My son "thinks" he may have topped off the system last year. The only brake fluid we have is DOT 3 and the unit says use DOT 4. Could this be the problem?
 
also check that wheel is aligned properly . I had same issue on a YZ and I couldnt figure it out - not good though - I think it caused me to be thrown off
 
Thanks for you input rockdancer but the front end hasn't been messed with since new tires last year and all seems to be in line. I tried to put the rubber gasket back in and it won't even fit so I think I'll call Halls and order a new one. So can DOT 3 being used to top it off in place of DOT 4 cause this problem?
 
When I used DOT3 in place of the recommended DOT4, I had the opposite problem and lost my front brake during a race. I lost all pressure and the lever went to the bar. So I went back to DOT4 and never had that problem again.
 
It sounds like something other that brake fluid is in there. If the cap seal is swollen up, so is everything else. Rebuild the master, the caliper and replace the brake line.
This is the only way to repair this damage. This is a very serious problem, if you don't feel comfortable doing this have a good tech do it.
 
Might simply have too much fluid in it- no airspace to allow for expansion once it warms up. Should have 4mm airspace. Replace/flush/bleed with DOT4 and hope no seals were ruined.
 
Thanks guys. It is a very serious problem so I'm gonna call Hall's and see what all new stuff is gonna cost me. I don't have a clue what could have made the rubber gasket swell. Nothing other than a very small amount of DOT3 has ever been added. The bike only has 30 hrs. on it and it's garage kept. It was a very weird feeling as I pulled off my MX track went into the woods and the front tire locked and the back tire was spinning pushing the front! I will say the front brakes on the 2010 TC 250 has some awesome stopping power and sometime even when you don't want it.
