  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TE 450 or 2011 TE 449 ?

I'm trying to decide if it's better to buy a new 2010 TE 450 for ($6,795) or wait for a 2011 TE 449 at pretty close to MSRP. The 2011 has many changes / updates, most positive, some maybe not. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Tough call. Although we out in Huskyland don't know, yet, my feeling is the fuel injection on the BMW engine is going to be better than what Husky has had on its other bikes. This may well be a moot point now that we've had 2+ years to sort the FI on the TE 250/310/450/510, but my gut tells me that the FI on the 449s will be much better right out of the box.

Of course, this is pure speculation.

On the other hand, the TE450 is now a known quantity. You'll save a bunch of money that you can then spend on accessories that are actually available. Plus, the Husky engine is more or less bulletproof and easy to work on. There's not much difference in weight between the two (both porky). You'll just have to fiddle with the FI to get perfect running. You may well not have to do that on 449s.

The question you have to ask is, do you want the newest, neatest thing on the block and to be the guinea pig we all want you to be? Or do you want to save money, buy accessories, and have to do some FI fine tuning?

Hard choice.

I personally really like the 449. If I had the ability to wring out a 450 in the tight woods of the north east, then I would definitely be interested in this bike.

What he said.

I have a 449/511 on order and believe it will be better in several areas. Everyone who has ridden a G450X or the new 449 says the EFI is fantastic, like on the Berg. this is a big plus. the motor is also said to be buttery smooth in comparison to the old bike. I believe the suspension will be a step forward also and have read good things about the rear end tracking unbelievably straight etc. I also believe it will be slightly lighter and feel a good bit lighter than the current offering. Mass centralization being the big part of it like the Berg. I really see this bike much like the new Bergs which in my book is :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Now the question is does any of then make the $$$ difference to you. And it is all speculation util we get to ride the new machine.

I decided to go with the 2010 TE450 rather than wait for the TE449.

I don't think either choice is bad and I would agree with the previous comments. The things that tipped me to the 450 were I wanted the bike now and I thought it would be easier to get a larger tank for the 450. I need the additional range and it may be a while before a larger underseat tank solution is available for the 449. Currently I am hoping the new tank from Clarke for the 450 (they say it is only a few weeks away) will be a good solution for the limited range.

I'm surprised you still don't own a Husaberg yet. I really like that 390, but......

If this new Husky is "berg-like" I think that definitely plays in its favor. Particularly the FI.

Had the same thoughts on the 310 after selling my beloved 450. Being an older codger I went for a 310. The 2010 run out was too well priced to miss. 1 ride later and love it/

Porky? Bad EFI? Ok....after riding a lot of bikes I think it's pretty darn good. But some people are prima donnas about stuff.....

Went for my second ride on the run out 310. My mate has a 2010 KTM 400 . I like his bike its not a bad all round machine. He just loved mine, felt it was much more flickable in the tight and did not want to give it back. Enough of shanghaing your thread but if you get a good deal the 2010's are great machines for trail riding.

i have a 09 te 450 well the same as a 010 just different plastics these bikes are great bit of a handful in in very tight stuff but fast single track nothing comes close

ps.. 010 would be at a good price now and these bikes will be the last true husky's not the hybrids that 2011 will bring

There is also a new device by JD jetting that supposedly helps set the EFI to a better mapping on the current models and costs less than current devices being sold ... This might be worth checking out ...

09 and 010 310 and 450 never had much problems with efi these bikes are set and forget not like all the problems the 250 had just look at the past efi forum's

Thanks to everyone for their input! I decided on the 2010 TE450 over the 2011 TE449. Taking everything into consideration, I think it's wiser to go with the tried and true and wait a few years while they work out the inevitable bugs in the TE449.

Thanks again...

Cycle World review in January issue made my mind up for me. I'm buying a left over 2009 TE 450. I know exactly what I'm getting and what parts are available for it right now.

Same way I felt about the 310. I got a 2010 for a smokin price and I am very pleased with this bike. I know the 2011 are awesome, but I feel that way about my 2010.

I thought I had received an email from Clarke saying that they had NO offering for the EFI TE models. Am I wrong?

Don't worry about the yr model ...since the invention of time, each time a new gadget comes out, it is the 'best and better' (what ever that means) than the previous model that was just the 'best and better' just ~365 days earlier ... and the beat goes on ... being around to hear the beat is what counts ..

Enjoy the ride and work on UR skills :)
