  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TE250 warranty Canada help

I took my 2010 TE250 into the dealer to have the starter checked out. The starter seems to drag and it will not turn the bike over (battery is good and bike kick starts fine.) So I asked about the warranty and told that the warranty is 2 years but if you install the factory provided power up kit that the warranty gets reduced to 6 months. This isn't and issue yet because we don't know what the problem with the starter is but I am curious as to what the warranty is and if the warranty is affected by the power up kit. BTW the bike has about 600km on it.

My own, USA experience is this: 2010 TE450 had a stock, 6 month warranty. Installing the PowerUp Kit reduced that to the 30 day competition warranty. And many dealers will stress that the kit is "really needed" since the bike is set-up "way too lean" from the factory. The benefits to Husky for the installation of the kits is huge.

To address your starting issue: My 2010 TE450 has always started a little lazily, starts quick, but seems to be turning slowly. I tested my compression and got 145psi, which seems to be a problem according to some folks. You might want to have your dealer check your compression. Here's what a guy on another board had posted on another thread and was brought to my attention:

First thing, fix it before you try to start it! You are at high risk of breaking engine cases, starter gears etc when its like that
You start with checking the valve clearences, they must be correct! The Auto De Compressor (ADC) only lift the exhaust valve someting like .020" so if your exhaust valve clearences are say .005" looser than spec it will be almost deactivated.
Another check would be to do a compression test, around 115PSI is good, under 100 the engine is worn out, over 130 the ADC is not working.
If the valve clearences are correct your ADC is worn out and must be replaced, now! Your next Kick start could cost you a grand +!

Did you specifically put all those hot links into the text?

On one hand I could not imagine you or anyone else doing that, on the other hand I cannot figure out how you got them all in the text with a copy/paste...

So the mechanic tracked down the issue. One of the exhaust valves was loose (from the factory) and was not decompressing properly during starting. To make matters worse the valve was bottoming out on the valve bucket and the top of the valve is now mushroomed out and needs to be replaced, but at least the valve didn't drop. Bottom line if your bike has a slow crank issue while starting and the charging system is up to par have your valves checked. As for the warranty the dealer has sent out emails to Husky Canada to see if they will help me out.

Today is April 15 and my warranty just went through on the Husky with the process starting around Feb 9th or so. I am happy that husky thought it was a warrantable situation but disapointed that Husky did not warranty the entire repair job which was about $650 or so and only saw fit to warranty about $230 of the repair bill and parts. I am even more disapointed that my dealer who I have purchased three bikes and thousands of dollars in parts from in the last 5 years didnt step up to the plate and help out with the labour at all. Needless to say Iam selling the Husky and not stepping foot in the dealers door again. I am taking a step back from the new bikes until something I love comes out and Iam going to have fun riding my KDX/KX hybrid and finish building my KX500SF.

There are some issues with starter gears. I dont want to step on your dealers toes, but give me a ring sometime. I have a couple of suggestions for you and the dealer to fix your bike.
