  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I bought a used 2010 txc250 (My other bike is a crf250) and have not had very much luck riding in the rocks with it. The 1st time out I clipped a rock with the frame where it kicks out by the footpeg. Sent me over the bars , smashed the frame and when the bike landed it hit another rock and dented the frame on the opposite side. I then installed a zipty plastic skid. The 3rd time out was a hare scramble with lots of rocks. Somehow something hit the oil filter cover and twisted it back breaking the cover and also breaking the tapped hole in the clutch cover. I didn't realize this had happened till the motor locked up. What does everyone run for a skid? Why don't I see anyone else running the new 250 4 stroke huskies at the local races? When I fix this heap I'm not sure if I want to ride it again.

I started to tear the motor down and I know I need a crank, crank bearings, piston, cylinder, oil filter cover, oil line and gaskets. Are parts expensive? Where is the best place to order from?

Wait, you're complaining about the bike because you keep crashing on the rocks? So when you crash your honda cases on the rocks they don't break?

maybe i didn't explain it clearly. The frame on the honda doesn't have the kick outs like the husky for rocks to catch a hold of. And from looking at a 2011 husky txc250 it must have been a problem for others since the frame has been changed by the footpegs. And as far as breaking the oil filter cover no i never broke one on the honda. I didn't crash the husky when it broke. Maybe i need a better skid for the husky. Who makes a good one?

I do have some nice dings under those frame pieces that stick out a bit, but have been lucky enough to have not crashed from whatever impacts caused them. I'm pretty sure they came from scraping on rocky dropoffs (guess I need to gas it more). I haven't broken anything else on this bike as a result of rocks (and we ride them all the time), but did manage to demolish a radiator and a clutch cover (two separate incidents) on my old Honda 250X. lol. I guess its just bad luck sometime.

I'm running the stock skidder right now, but will probably upgrade to this Hyde skid plate soon. I had good luck with mine on my KTM.

If rocks seem to be attracted to your bike, you might also consider a pipe guard. Those stock Husky head pipes are expensive to replace. From the looks of it, mine has already paid for itself. :)

I have an Up-Tite skid plate. Check it out, looks nice and seems very durable.

Phoenix: That pipe guard looks good, I might have to get one!
