  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE 250 died out on trail

Here is another fuel pump story.
My son's 2011 TE 250, 640 miles on it, 3 months old was running great all morning. He hit the kill button and went to restart 1 minute later. The engine fired then died. we were able to check all the wires, I even pulled the fuel pump to make sure the wire was not loose. This afternoon I put a meter on it and I get 13+ volts when the key gets turned on and when starting. No fuel pump sound at all. Will I get a hassle since I powered up?
I will find out when I take it to Malcolm Smith Motorsports.
I heard the fuel pumps were fixed on these.

When you turn the key on, if the pump fails to prime/whir, or if it whirs but sounds funny/weak/strained, the pump is bad. PowerUp officially changes the TE 6 month warranty to a 30 day competition warranty, some dealers give "leeway", some dealers don't.

If you don't have any luck with warranty. I have had about 50/50 luck getting locked up electric fuel pumps going again by hooking them up (briefly) backward to run them backwards. If it injested some dirt it might spit it out.

I received a call from the dealer Thursday (Malcolm Smith Motorsports in Riverside). They are a bunch of great guys there and I recommend them, Cory the service manager let me know they confirmed a bad fuel pump and Husky is taking care of it under warranty. Thanks for all the advice.

Does anyone carry a fuel pump as a back up? Is there one pump that can work for multiple Husky's?

Get one of these and keep it with you. $130

Has anybody seen this one on Ebay yet? Or tried it? For this price it would definitely be worth keeping as a spare.

That's the mobile phone link. Hopefully it will work on the computer. If not, the item number is in the URL.

That one is 38mm, you will have to remove your carrier holster to make that one work, I suggest the CAcycleWorks replacement, it's the correct 30mm diameter.

Dimensions:
Overall Length (tip to tip): 4 1/2" (11.5cm)
Length of Pump Body Metal Case: 2 5/8" (6.6cm)
Pump Body Diameter: 1 1/2" (3.8cm) = 38mm
Inlet Diameter: 5/16" (0.8cm)
Outlet Diameter: 5/16" (0.8cm)

Good for husky to take care of it even after power up. Only thing in the back of my mind when out far from camp. Usually about 50 miles +. Carb bikes don't put that in the back of your mind. Spare bike in your pack is what you really need.

It was probably 5 miles tow to where it broke down. I rode back to the truck and moved it closer. The bitch was pushing the bike up this horrendous hill that took over an hour to make it to the top.

Called the dealer friday and still no fuel pump yet. I do not know where parts come from, Italy or Germany?
Just over a week and a half since they ordered the pump.
About a week ago I got their survey in the mail asking how they did and to rate the service. i hope to write them a good review...

One of my Husky bikes has been in the shop since 05/08/12 and still no word on "when" the parts will come in. Not sure "what" parts they (3bro) are waiting for as the motor took a crap and the hogs ate it. :banghead: Oil pump gear "C" clip fell off (wonder how that can happen:excuseme: ) and the oil was starved to the head for who knows how long? New oil pump, rocker arms, bearings etc. etc. etc. Way to go Husky, way to have your parts available. Lucky for me I have lots of bike to play on. Just makes me , that they sit on there hands. Lucky it's all under warranty!

found out today parts order was nor received at Husky Italy and no part was shipped.reordered today. another week +.

Well, at least the guys at MS are doing their best to help you out. I guess we all take a certain amount of risk buying an exotic brand when it comes to parts availability. So are these fuel pumps made by Fiat? You know the saying...Fix It Again Tony.

Here is a pict of FIP that I took off recently from my 2011 TE250- dead pump ! It is made in china :excuseme:

The bike had to be evacuated and turned out to be the longest trip I have, 3.5 hours for just a mile to the nearest road where the bike can be towed- a single track all fill with full of dark-grey mud half meter deep - no tow can be done :banghead:

I bought the TE250 last Feb and problems roll over one after the other : less then 2RH the starter relay fuse blown out (I always bring all the fuses husky had after that), 5 RH the fuel tanks leaks out off the swivelling nozzle, 6 RH the starter motor burnt, and the last and worst is a dead FIP on 9 RH.

I wish my first post here was something nice about husky

That appears to be the same 30mm pump that has been used in the EFI Huskys from the start, just a different way to incorporate them into an assembly that includes a strainer, a filter and a regulator.
