  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE 310 Ride Reports?

I got a 2011 TE310 for Christmas! Probably first one in San Diego County. My son has a 10 TE250 and I used to "borrow" it all the time when he's in school and I get a chance to do a mid-week ride. I loved his bike and the 310 is just THAT much more! Front wheel will loft with less effort. The close ratio transmission I hated on my ol' 07 510 is better suited to the new 310 though it could still pull wider gears.
Get rid of the useless stock skid plate (yes they only cost $12.00 but that's all they're worth) and put a Hyde Racing skid plate on it. OFG radiator braces and I went up one spring rate on the rear (I'm 175 lbs).
Sorry I can't compare it to a KTM but you don't need to ride one to observe the advantage of the Husky...It's NOT orange!

I am enjoying my 310 as well. Quick question - Have you been able to attach the Hyde racing skid plate without drilling new holes in the frame? If so how? I spoke to them a while back and it was going to take them a while to update to fit the different 2011 TE310 frame vs the 2010 TE250.

U type nut retainers or J type nut retainers! Do NOT use the riv-nut bracket that Hyde sends with the skid plate. The riv-nuts can spin in the bracket and then you have to try to drill out the fastener and it melts the skid plate. Happend on our 250 and I have to use larger washers now. My recollection is that I did drill at least one hole in the frame gusset on the 310 and just clipped in a couple of those U type nut thingys. They are the same clip nut that is used on the tail end of your gas tank plastic cover panel that joins to the side panel. They should have them at Tru Value. And be careful that the mounting screws are not too long and poke a hole in that stupid oil drain breather hose that runs right by there.
Anyone know if we can eliminate that hose and put a proper drain plug in?

I did look at the U/J retainers. I did not feel comfortable with drilling - especially with the oil return line right on top of the mounting area. Not sure if the oil return line can be eliminated. It makes the oil changes difficult. I bought an open end ratchet wrench which helped alot.
