  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 te 449 not charging battery

Hi Jase, have you tried the ac test as mentioned above?,it will tell you if stator has gone.
And once again a big thanks to all for input:cheers:
Hi Mull
The first time it failed, it wasn't charging in the bush and ended up flat. I got it home and cleaned it and it was charging 13.1 volts. So I put a new reg in it and cleaned every plug in the harness and got 14.8 volts.
The 2nd time it all seemed good in the morning but wasn't charging by mid day and went flat again. I got it home and cleaned it again and now it's charging a nice 14.2 volts.
So it's dying throughout the ride and working well in the garage when cleaned.
I haven't tried the tests you guys have been talking about, as it does work at times.
I keep leaning towards a harness problem that I cant find. I have had the whole bike stripped to an engine and frame and suspension looking for a problem with the harness. My dealer (R&D) does look after me, but I'd like to try solving it myself.
Any thoughts guys?
Jase

Heat affects electrical components quite a bit. I'd perform the tests that Mull did (stator output test) cold AND hot. I bet you'll find a variation in your readings (which is not a good thing). This might not be your issue but it's best to start ruling things out

Hi fellas, I've been reading through this thread as I'm experiencing a similar problem. As I struggle to fully understand the advice above my simple question is I've got new battery in my 2011 TE 511 and new rectifier but across the battery running at idle I have 12.5v but not running I have around 13v. When the bike is running if I test the two poles on the remote switch I get a variation of anywhere between 13.5 and 17 v. Does this mean the remote switch is shagged? As there is only 2 inches of cable going from the positive on the battery to remote swothch to my simple mind it's not letting charge back through into the battery, is this the case?
