  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE310 first ride :-)

Very cool! Now... how did it feel and are you changing your screen name? Thanks for sharing the video.

Nice but I know your not going to leave us hanging with no report man. how do you like it? Looks like she is running good. Is the blue button on the left a map switch?

Spoke to him on the phone, sounds like the bike is good for him. He can't post here during the day. Gearing it down some. Really likes the motor and suspension.

Is the blue button on the left a map switch?

Yes. Once the bike is warm, hold it down for a few seconds. Can be done on the fly (ie: you don't have to stop, or shut off the engine or anything).

I'm pretty happy with mine, although the EFI in the lower rpms seems rough. Some have suggested a tweak to the map for hesitation, but I'm not sure that's the problem I was noticing. I'll pay closer attention next time I take it out. Moderate to Flogging she does great. At first I hated the low gearing with the optional chain and rear sprocket, but after doing a few hills, I think I like it. It's nice having 3 gears to choose from instead of just picking the one that works. Gives you flexibility based on what might be beyond.

The seat foam is classic Husky. The vibrations make the boyz numb after a while if you sit much. With a bad foot and wanting to rest my legs some, this has occasionally been a problem. I'll probably get the seat redone as I'd like it lower anyways. I can barely touch ground as it is and I weigh 280 lbs and am 5'11" tall with a 29-30" inseam.

I wish the bike warmed up faster. It's difficult to keep it running for the first several minutes. I wish the starter lever wasn't spring loaded. And I wish it had a nice, beefy kickstand like my '03 610. These new, fancy ones are kinda wimpy.

I wish the lower rpms had better response so that loading it into the truck under power wasn't so difficult. It's a cakewalk with the 610. It's a 3 or 4 restart process with the 310, if not more. I can't walk up the ramp that fast and it requires a lot of gas or it will stall. I don't want to slip the clutch that heavily and I don't want to launch it over the top of the truck, either.

Is that a Rolex?

Bike seems really snappy?
For a first ride it was pretty good.
Love the video, what was with the truck with the red lights at the end?
There was a injured rider somewhere in the hills. They were there most of the day.
How's the EFI?
Since this was my first EFI it felt good. It may be a tad lean on the bottom but I have a Ibeat that should take care of that this weekend.

lol then how do I hide my yamafreek tattoo?

I think you and my visa are going to have a good relationship... Thanks for the guards they are light weight and stout.
Is that a Rolex? :) Great video, thanks for sharing
Rolex?? This casio is going to have to last a long time... lol..

Congrats on the new ride, Freek! Kahuku? Is that Blane on the Yamaha?
Yes and yes, looks like the old group is starting to get back into it.
I posted the video just before work early this morning, 5:20am and cant access CH from work. Thats why the delay. I have only one semi-real ride so take this with a grain of salt. This bike is almost to nice to get dirty! Ok with that said here we go. Ran the bike around the block during the week and removed/installed the throttle stop, cat converter, o2 sensor and 13/50 gearing. The plastics fit really good. Bike starts right up and will idle on its own. This is my first experience with EFI so I don't know what is good or bad? To me it's way more responsive than a carb. I have a gut feeling that a little more fuel in the lower side will make things even better. Not much of a difference with the "db" killer in or out besides the noise.(1st part of vid is with it in) I set up the clickers for the suspension on the soft side to help with break in. Even like this it felt way better than my WR250/290f. Breaks are excellent as well. The engine, feels real good but seems to make its power in the mid to top end. I thought with the "stroke" used to get to 300cc it would have been a low end engine. Again I think a little more fuel(Ibeat) on the low or what was the pilot should do the trick. The gearing.... For pure race this transmission would be great but for my type of riding it would have been better wide. Again compared to my wr250f I will need to lower my gearing. A 12/50 should do the trick and will make the low end feel a lot stronger. A low 1st and tall 6th would have been a grand slam! Ok here is my negatives, kickstand needs attention, bike is tall for us shorter riders, oil changes should be easier(I could be doing it wrong). Positives, Engine has a real nice hit of power, bike feels like everything is working together, strongest brakes I ever used, suspension takes the hits of the roots very well. As you can see in the video it has the torque and power to crawl up hills or to pull throttle wheelies. For a first ride it did better than I expected. Lower gearing and some minor adjustments here and there and I feel this will be the best oem, "street legal", "full race", trail bike for the toughest, nastiest, tightest trails for me.

Very good write up. Now changing your screen name will be a lot easier than the tattoo removal and a lot cheaper LOL. Glad you like your new Husky, enjoy.

Just a thought you may find the bike is actually lean on the bottom as someone else reported. I believe they had set to 95 on the first setting.

95 would be 5% more lean just so you know. 105 would be 5% richer. I do remember someone saying they went to a 95 but it not warming up right away and the sounds of the bike make me think it is lean on the bottom too.

I read that the 08/09 were on the rich side from the factory. Was what the 10 310 was based on as well? Anyway will try it out in the next few weeks. Might play with it this afternoon. As far as warming up, it does have a thermostat so warmups should be quicker even if not in Hawaii....

Awesome trail, looks like a very capable bike- you seem to enjoy it while lofting the front end.
