  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE449 Running well with factory EFI system - finally

EDIT 3 - Australian delivered bikes get an ecu with the same p/no. as Europe, there may be different/better/worse mapping loaded into them over USA/Can ECUs.

Just a note on this, when I purchased my 511 last year, they had both Euro and US models in stock due Husky getting rid of the 2013 stock worldwide. You could choose (well I had the choice) of either. So there are definitely some US spec bikes (without the emissions stuff attached) here in Australia.

Interesting.
Does anyone know how many TE449/511s there are worldwide?
I'm just curious as to the number sold.

So we have been out today... and as i found out , Huskyboy 410 is a mate of Guy i bought some parts off. Today then we all 3 met and went for a ride.
We also swap'd bikes and had a go on each others bike.
Amazing the differences in the Suspension .. But the Changes we all did on our Throttle Body's are the ones which made the Difference . All bikes are now very responsive , not a single FLAME OUT on one of the Bikes . Uphill, the power you get now is just great. It's like we just bought new bikes. There are things we have to adjust our riding to it again. Get the Throttle response you always wanted.... her she is without a flame out or Dead Throttle.

Travelling along in 3 or 4 gear and pulling a wheel up is now just a matter of the twist.
No Log jump with a stalled Engine.

And finally we do have Engine braking.. just about to re learn going downhill with using the rear brake almost not at all.3 Italiens.jpg

I can say we are freaking happy with the results now... nothing will make us to re install the Butterfly.

I can say now, there is no JD Tuner needed or PCV . When you go Trail riding and tide single tracks with knarly hills, the Power you get now is all you need.

The fact you don't have to be worried you could get a flameout up hill, makes it so much more enjoyable....

When i heard before you need to run the bike at least 500 miles before flame outs become better .... i reckon thats utter crap.!!!
All you do is, you just learn to ride a bike with mega unacceptable faults , the way the factory set them up..... You are aware of the flame outs or the delayed Power delivery, the unacceptable hot start behaviour .. With that awareness you become better using a bike with faults. CLEAR and simple.

Now we have a Bike without these faults..... you push the button and you go... You twist the throttle and you get that what you would get from any other Bike.

A huge thanks to Dangermousse !

The importer over here isn't aware of a 'Map3', but did refer to the Akro full race pipe tune. Dangermouse 449 is this tune different from Race map 2 or is this for Akro muff that is fitted to the bike as a second option [I got a slip on with my bike] then they put on race map 2 . what know shows up on you dash .

Apparently what we're calling BMW Map #3 on this forum is what the dealers know as the Akrapovic Full Titanium Race Map. One in the same.

After putting on the pipe (the computer figures out what you are up to with the new pipe), or after installing the power up plug, you're dash should say something like Race Map II. And it will still say that when you get map #3 (there are lots of posts on this site that describe why your dash says what it says, even after you re-flash the ECU).

Yes, it is another new map set, not just for the slip-on.

It is supposed to go with the Husqvarna Special Parts full racing exhaust system, but helps with the leanness of the near standard bikes.

It still has a 'normal' map when no jumper plug & o2 sensor is fitted, & still shows as race map II like before when the jumper is installed & no o2 fitted.

A dealer would have to install it, or confirm it is already installed, with the HST hand reader.

Some of the better dealers may have uploaded the bikes from new to save trouble later.

** You must first get a dealer to upload the maps (Map3/Akro race map) into the ECU. I also read here somewhere, they also must upload it without the jumper plug installed.
Then when completed, you install the jumper plug and it will run the new richer programing to suit an open exhaust. (And still show map II on the dash)

If that isn't enough fueling to run with the exhaust you have, you will need to tune from there with a piggy-back system like PCV.

Race map 2 is allready on when they come in the Box. Map 3 was it called at bmw times. In husky language its called Akropovic Setting. Same on the Laptop. The MAp2 will not disappear in your DAsh.
With installing the supplied AKRO Pipe they should update to Akro Map setting.

The normal map (no jumper installed & o2 sensor fitted) was for standard running with factory cat muffler fitted, Map2 (jumper fitted & o2 not connected)
was for the supplied slip-on.
Race map 3 was for the 'special parts' racing complete exhaust system, but will make the slip-on system work well.

I drank the "butterfly removal" kool-aid and I like it....I bow to Dangermouse:notworthy:.

I really tried to get it to flameout, however the air temp was only about 70. Mine flameouts increase with air temp. Definitely could lug mine way more now. Purposely went slow to get it hot and would decel then blip it and no cough:thumbsup:.

I've got 2500 miles, FMF & map 3. I may put my JD tuner back on and try what Kelly did, lean it out in the middle.

I'm not thinking divorce anymore, but I'm still not trusting her suspension, we'll get that worked out next.IMAG0342.jpg

Glad you like it!

I'm no suspension guru, but i've got mine feeling good now with about 4 more clicks firmer on the rebound front & rear & about 2 or 3 firmer on compression both ends (From standard)
We ride a fair amount of steep country with errosion humps on them & it seems much better over the big hits now (I am about 85kg plug gear)

thanks 9880sts aka.. (vettel), great ride and gees you are quick !!!

the mod worked perfectly as he stated earlier, power delivery INSTANT! , more power SHIT YEH! , no flame outs NOT ONE!

do i really need re map even more power...ummmmm NO! will i do it F%#$ YEH!!!
and a big thanks to dangermouse449 ...cheers!
*forgot to mention engine braking is another wow factor.... and now need to learn how to ride the bike all over again. As i come into a corner went back into 2nd and it almost put me over the bars as i didnt expect it.

ZipTy did a fantastic job on mine. Was a handful in whoops now eats them for lunch. Rear is some of the best I have ever rode. Buddy Trav with the KTM loved it as well.

Seemed to really make a difference on mine. Adding to the top too.

Got my bike going with a pod filter over the stock rubber elbow/velocity stack no airbox, race map 3, no fly by wire throttle, valve cover breather recirc, iridium plug, fmf slip on with loudest insert, header wrap, power commander with auto tune.

Results? BIKE RIPS! Seriously is so snappy and responsive. Especially since more aut tune is going on. I do have much more engine braking and I never touched the little nub for the idle thingy, just running no secondary throttle butterfly? I like it, no reason for me to change it. I am going to try to lower the idle tomorrow and accept some auto tune trims. No cons. I stalled it a couple times by locking the back wheel in a slide, but other than that It has been a beast! If they came from the factory like this, these bikes would have made them some serious money!

Even with 15/44 gearing I could easily do 3rd gear wheelies. Maybe 4th with clutch work and a tug on the bars/bump in the road, didn't try!

Could someone please explain the procces of remaping to map 3, maybe I'm an idiot but I can't find any conclusive information on the steps I need to take.

you can't do it yourself...
you need a Husky dealer to upload the software to the bike. Thats it. In australia they call it Akropavic Map. In the older Bmw times it was called map 3.

If no dealer wants to do it, send it to Zip ty, they can do it without the bike.

Tinken is the man to talk to.

Hey Huskyboy, great ride yesterday.

I am born in Germany ,,, just like VEttel. We grow up on and beside the Autobahn. Who is MArk Webber ?

with the Suspension proper set up you will gain more Confidence.. with Stock Suspension , i didnt like the bike much on the Front.
But since Chad Offroad did his magic and re valved it plus heavier Springs, i love it. I just need to loose a handfull of pounds again.

I trully like this Bike now , can't even imagine Husqvarna/BMW sold the bike the way it was over the last few years. More people especially here in Australia would have bought one. I met many Guys who owned a 449 or 511 over the last 2-3 years. And none of em was really impressed .
Everyone had the same Complains...... to Soft in the Front / Engine to tame or mentioned even lame / Hot Start issue / Flame outs.

I am off to Kinglake tomorrow and next friday is a DIRTZRIDERZ ride in Wombat again...
