  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE449 Running well with factory EFI system - finally

You can move it in both directions. Just open your powercommander and look at the tps voltage and adjust it.

Thanks all. Mine was set at .72 to start with. I adjusted it to .78 for a short ride and the bike seemed to lack a little bottom end power. I'll do a bit more testing tomorrow and see how it goes..

Its very sensitive to adjust. If you don't have the correct tools, I wouldn't attempt moving it.

Cruises 10mph faster smoother no stalling or computer rebooting. AC wiring cannot be bundled with unshielded DC or computer wiring has to be separated.

Michael great thought any AC OR DC voltage must have a clearance. Cable supplying data even telecommunications lines must mantain seperation.
(NO I DONT HAVE A PHONE ON MY BIKE) the cord wasnt long enough.:)

It makes sense to me, the ECU uses mostly 5v max signals, so the operating range is from about 0.5v to 4.5v.
Wouldn't take much to upset these unshielded signals.

I'm watching with interest :)

I was talking to a good mate of mine at work about bikes (He's ridden all sorts for years) and currently he has one of those Suzuki V-Strom DS monsters.

I mentioned the removal of the butterfly from my TE449 & his ears pricked up!
He said the V-stroms have had the same thing & recently they have been pulling them out with great improvements in rideability.
Suzuki originally trotted out the same crap Husky floated about 'smooth power delivery', 'increased control' & 'better torque'.
They had the same problems as Husky too, with bikes that stumble & flat-spot.
In a complete about-face, the latest 2015 model doesn't have the twin butterfly set-up. It makes more torque AND at lower RPM.

It appears Husky & Yamaha weren't the only ones fooled into fitting the system. :(

I've decided to hold off weighting my 449's flywheel until I have done the EFI mods, it seems the mods may solve my power delivery problems at low rpm.

My question is really about the order in which the mods should be performed: does it matter?

I have an appointment next Friday with my dealer to have the Akro Racing map installed on my ECU - should I have that done before I remove the butterfly, or would it make no difference?

It seems removing the butterfly also increases engine breaking, and then removing the little stopper from the throttle mechanisim further increases engine breaking? Is this an accurate summary? What is that stopper actually meant to do?

I'd run with the map upgrade first & see if you like it like that. That may be just what you are after.
If you want a little more 'snap to attention' from the throttle, pull the butterfly out.
It doesn't make more power, just quickens the delivery of the power taking away the electronic delay they built in.

The reduced engine braking comes from the little idle roller on the primary shaft.
The cam on the secondary shaft acts on this roller & controls idle.
The bikes will idle perfectly well without it & by adjusting the brass idle screw once the roller is removed. You could reverse this if needed by reattaching the roller, but on my own bike, I find hot or cold I can still idle fine.
have a quick read through the first post on the thread & it should become a little clearer.

Glad someone else is finding this mod useful too

Hey Dangermousse,
i reckon this modification will be soon in many TE 449 and 511's.

All we want is grunt .... forward movement and front wheels popped when we twist the throttle.

We dont ride on Ice to ask for smooth power....

And thanks, i never really realised that the Trip meter went to 0 after some Engine restart. The Bigger LITHIUM Battery was another huge improvement.[/quote]

Great to hear, I never met a horse-power I didn't like!! lol.

Yeah, with regards to the trip meter, until I fitted the new battery, I'd never had it measure a full ride before.

I can finally now see how many km I get for a given amount of fuel. We ride fairly rough country, so an 80-100 km ride is about it for a tank.

It is handy to know if you're going to need fuel.

After I worked out it was a voltage drop,I opened up the speedo ages ago, but didn't pursue it.

It looks like they were going to put in a back-up battery system, but didn't for some reason.

Someone else can have a crack at it if they like :)

G450X has back up battery ... Husky went cheap on you guys ;)

I havn't seen a Husky one - sorry ... do they encourage you to ride harder by flashing 'SPEED SPEED SPEED' at you like the G450X does ... shortly followed by 'FUEL FUEL FUEL' and a walk home.:D

Ours just say 'Fail'......but keep running.
Either it failed or it didn't ha ha.
I know there's limited lcd space/icons etc to tell about logged codes, but 'Fail' seems a bit dramatic. :D
