2011 TE511 NEXT 500 KMS 7/5/11
Further to my post I put up last Thursday (where I listed various accessories or modifications to my TE511), I thought I would share my thoughts and reasons why I elected to make the changes to an already superb motorcycle.
BLING
Husqvarna Billet Alloy Fuel Cap, Oil Screen Caps & Oil Filter Cap
I just loved these Husky red anodised bits and I am a sucker for them
I just had to get them.
HUSQVARNA CARBON FIBRE REAR CHAIN GUIDE
I was not happy with the chain guide on my 2009 TE450 and I was sceptical when I saw the plastic one on the TE511. I know that this is an age old argument whether you go flexible or whether you go for strength but IMO I always go for strength and this carbon fibre was just the ticket (and looks trick). Incidentally I am led to beleive from Trooper Lu in Melbourne that the TM Designworks one for the 2006 Husky TE450/510 also fits straight on. These are the best but I was already committed on the carbon option. It will be fine.
HUSQVARNA SHOCK SPRING PRELOAD ADJUSTER
What a great idea. If you are into suspension set up this is a must. If you are a take it from the factory and ride it type of guy don't bother. I am a fiddler by nature and wanted a mild spring upgrade anyway so when I heard about it it became the first thing I actually bought just after I purchased my bike. KTM have also just released their version; but Husky were first to offer this and the first into production. Good one Husky
12 MM BAR RISERS
The bike is so comfortable stock and for some reason I feel that the ergos actually encourages you to stand because it is so comfortable. I guess it is due to where everything is in relation to each other i.e. bars, pegs, positioning, seat, light weight feel of the bike. However due to my bad back I added some extra height by way of the standard bar risers from my 2009 TE450 which fitted straight on prefectly. All I did was file off flat the small raised section so the TE511 clamps would sit flat on them for a better fit. The result is an excellent 12 mm riser and now I am really comfortable and straight up. This also allowed me to pull the bars back towards me slightly for absolute perfection in ergos for me.
B&B ALUMINIUM PRODUCTS
Bash Plate, Radiator Guards, Mid Pipe Heat Shield
Superb Products in all areas of design and construction but in particular the Radiator Guards and the Mid Pipe Heat Shield. Of course these all all necessary because of where I ride and my past accidents and failures on the trails. Once bitten !

SUSPENSION
Genuine Kayaba 5.3 Kg Shock Spring and Racetech 0.48 Fork Springs
For my weight I found the sweet spot set up I was chasing to be around a 120mm rider sag with full gear on and full tanks. But of course you have to also consider this in relationship to the static sag reading. I concluded that I need a slightly stronger rear spring and decided to go with a 5.3 Kg genuine Kayaba spring in leiu of the standard 5.1 Kg. The result was 45mm static sag.
Perfect
Now of course this upset the already slightly softish front end and necessitated an upgrade to 0.48 rate springs. I took a slight amount of oil out and set evenly to 120mm and left all clickers on standard settings at this stage. Standard logic suggests that it might need a couple of clicks more rebound to control the spring but it feels good at this stage left as is.
MOTORSPORTZ DISC PROTECTORS
Best in the world. End of story. Do not bother with anything else.
TYRES & GEARING
The standard FIM tyres were used for the first initial ride only. Gone !
Pirelli MX Extra (120/100) rear and Pirelli XC Mid Soft front have always been my tires of choice but the 120/100 rear and its rolling circumference this nessecitated a 50 tooth sprocket so that the wheel can be slightly pulled back on the swingarm and therefore has good clearance to the mud flap in front. I settled on a Supersprox Stealth sprocket because I have never had one so I thought I would try it out as I have only heard good reports.
Superb tire setup. Strongly recommend this combo.
G2 ERGONIMICS THROTTLE TUBE & CAM
I have always had this setup on all my bikes. Its smoothness has to be felt on the trail, not on the bike stand, to be appreciated and once you have had on you just can go back. Its effect is more pronounced on bikes that already have worn throttle tubes but it is so nice. I also elected to use their 200 cam profile that came with the kit which has a slightly slower throttle action in the first half of the pull but ramps up to the standard rate in the last half. This I prefered as it gives me slightly more throttle control at lower revs in real snotty stuff.
WORKS CONNECTION ROTATING BAR CLAMPS
A cheap, good looking and elegant quick fix to prevent potentialy expensive damage if you break a clutch or brake master cylinder in a fall. The nylon inserts work a treat. Not to mention your days ride is over if you break one of the mater cylinders !
BIKETIQUE ALLOY HG1 or HG2 HAND GUARDS
I was put onto these handguards by Justin at Trooper Lu's in Sydney a couple of weeks ago and I must say that these units are a step up from other options from Barkbusters or Acerbis. IMO.
*Cheaper and better product
*Much Stronger T6 Alloy to begin with
*Much better looking highly polished alloy
*Much better durability as they are heat anodised after polishing
*Better bar clamp options and fit IMO
*Better plastics IMO
Well there you have it.
This is my bike setup, and my prefection, in my magnificent Husqvarna TE511.
Photos soon.
