  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013/14 TE 511 or 449?

I have ridden the 449 and 511 back to back. The 511 has noticeably more power, not huge but enough to notice. For the $200 or so difference get the more power.
They were stock when you rode them back to back right? Did you ever install that megabomb/silencer I shipped up there?

$7000 Out the door for a brand new 511 ? Did you buy from Ernie ? Mine was $7999 MSRP in 2011, OTD was well over 8K.

For those looking, I am not sure what shipping options are, but out local dealer in St. Louis had SEVERAL marked at $5700 OTD. You pay the taxes and tag in whatever state you are in.

I went with the 449 because it seemed PLENTY big. I have ridden the 511 back to back...mine being dialed in w/ map 3 and mine was clearly better all around. I could feel the 511 pull a bit better right off idle and down low where I feel my 449 is a bit weak.

I would be VERY happy with either bike. In some open fast ATV style trails a few weeks back we had some time to bar bang with big bore KTMs and my little 449 gave nothing up to new 530's and older 525's.

My question was to DJay...I'm also shopping for a 511 ( So Calif) Bert's Mega Mall has a bunch of them at $6499 sticker , Plus ??? Have not called them as I am still a few weeks away from pulling the trigger.

I was at Berts and I was leaning towards the TE310 until I read that the close ratio tranmission isnt so great on the hwy. I have not called them yet since the sales guy I am dealing with is not in until tomorrow. The quote for $8200 was from another local dealership and it was for a 2013 TE449. I am willing to make the drive to SD to save another $400-$500.

A megabomb header will bring you right back up close to a 511 torque wise. Plus we can tune a 449 to be close to a MY14 500exc if needed.

'13 511.
3mm larger bore (=478cc), otherwise, identical.
Bought because I got a heck of a deal. Could have got a '12 WR450 for about the same, but I wanted something that could be plated. I'll be spending about a grand on necessary upgrades like a pipe, an upgraded UPC, a new seat, and suspension work. So, a "heck of a deal" will ultimately be "a decent deal". But, it's a better bike than I expected when I bought it. I'm astonished at the power it makes. A modified WR450 might be the same, I don't know. But for a duel sport bike at the price, it's.... really good!
$1000? Not bad. Those are items you will put on any new bike in order to make it right. Ive spent more than that on a CR250, WR250 (Yamaha), KTM 250SX, KX250, ETC.

Yes I'm in Calif. Not sure if it was Bert or Ernie... HAA ! That's funny!
Ernie sounds right. Goodtimes in Sac

Good guys. You know, I think my OTD was $7200. They were giving me a good price so I didn't nickel and dime the fees. They sold me the ECU jumper for $8. They wouldn't put it in though. It was funny. They pointed to where it went with a pen but kept 5 feet away. Maybe I look like an Agent.

Ha.. I see the potential sarcasm...that's funny it's just coinsidence. "Ernie & Bert"
Goodtimes is ok to buy from but that's about it. Parts and service and sales~ MotoXotica.

Sounds like a good price to me. I paid $6400 before taxes for a 2013 factory demo with like 40 miles on it. That was before the $2500 off, tho.

Is $5800 OTD for a new 2013 TE511 a good price? I would have to pay my states sales tax ($425)

The way I look at it is a comparable KTM is $9000 minimum...maybe closer to $10k. Stepping back, $5800 is a steal and prob is below manufacturing cost when all is said and done.

Next year, the price of the new Husqvarna motorcycles is going to be near $10k here in the US. Combined with the fact that you cannot get one with a license plate (not a problem in some areas). This will drive the price of the existing TE449/511's up in price after dealer stock is diminished. I am already seeing this trend happening.

Just a little over a year later… The 14 TE449 was still calling my name me so I picked one. I was still a little apprehensive about it but happy I finally pulled the trigger. Thanks for all the advice. I did put it in race mapII. The suspension is a little soft so off to zipty it goes in the next few weeks to for new springs, valves and map 3. I have not had any issues with flame outs yet.

It turned out the other way… Everyone told me the resale value on the bike would be terrible. My response to that is I didn't buy it to resale it I bought it to ride it… :D

The seat heigh is not 995mm for those bikes. IIRC, it's 37.4" which is 950mm.

The 2011 was taller. Both models were shortened for the 2012 year forward. That spec sheet is a 2011 edition.

It's still wrong. 995mm is 39". Those bikes were never that tall or you'd see dozens of posts from me complaining about it! LOL
