    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2013 TE310 and Sprockets

Very pleased with the bike. I live in Arizona and ride single track, river beds, hill climbs, and rocky terrain. The stock TE310 sprocket set-up is too high. I believe I have a 13 front and I put on a 42 rear but 1st is still to high. Who has a good front and rear sprocket set-up that they like; 13f 46r? or maybe 12f 46r? Thoughts / comments. Arizona Ken.
 
I'm reasonably sure that you must have the incredibly tall TE gearing from the factory, which I believe is probably put on to pass emissions. I'll move your question over to the Italian 4st where you should get the proper attention your question deserves, because I'm not really sure as to all the details.
 
13/48 will get you really close with a 310r. If you don't ride much road then 13/50 is perfect and is a freakin blast.:thumbsup: You will need a longer chain or add some links to you stock chain.
 
It's a tough choice. I'm running 13/45 because I really do use it as a dual-sport, but you're hitting the clutch pretty hard in the technical stuff. Definitely short spacing in the gear box. You basically have to decide which type of terrain you want to gear for-you can't have both with this bike.
 
13/45 for now. I opted for more highway speed My 2012 came stock 13/40 for emissions purposes.. It was rideable but not fun the few times I took it out with stock gearing in Big Bear.

I had 13/50 on my 2008 TE 250 and like that. The 310 has more torque so I doubt I'd ever choose the 13/52 unless most of my riding was narrow, twisty and hilly. Also have a Rekluse so the expert clutch use is a given.....;)
 
My 2011 TE 250 came with both a 50 and 40 and two chains. I thought that was very cool, but the dealer
had the 40 on when I picked it up, the 50 and chain were in the box. The bike was powered up, but the 40
was a bit of a joke (emissions purposes ?). I race Supermoto (for fun) and the 40 was to tall for that....

Now that My 2011 TE/TXC/SMR is running like a champ (12 port injector, Leo TXC ecu and full Leo System) this is the gearing that fits my ridding. I have 3 chains for this.

13/50 Tractor gearing : single track, tight tec stuff .

13/47 DS gearing : all purpose,dirt and Supermoto wheels, fire roads, street, tight Supermoto tracks.

13/42 High Speed : Short 55mph + needs, Supermoto wheels (17s), Street(will get me busted), big Supermoto tracks.
 
13-45 here as well. 1000 miles of dirt and except for the very technical terrain, where I'm clutching a little, a good combo. OK at 45-55 for stretches of a few miles. I would consider a 47/48 possibly if I only did 45mph secondary roads. If I have to do 55 for a stretch (and not get runover) 45 is good, and keeps vibration and revs aceptable for me.

You probably want a 50 tooth sprocket though since you didn't list any fireroads, etc...

I don't ride much on the street; usually a short cut or a way back to camp. As long as I can do 45-50 mph I'm fine. The bike has already been uncorked so the power is great. I went from a 08' Kawa 250f to the TE310. I selected the bike because of the lighter weight, a light, electric start, and fuel injection. The Kawa was carb'd and at 7,500 elevation I had to kick the bike a few extra times to get her started. The Kawa was set-up for track riding, which I don't do, but I fund the gearing perfect for technical sections and Arizona riding.

Go with an Ironman 52. If you don't like it, send the 52 to me and I'll send my almost new (less than 30 miles) 50 to you in trade.
 
I have the 47 on my 310 and love it. The wife has the 50 on her 250 and she loves that. I found the 50 topped out too fast for MX and DS so I went to a 47. Trails and track I am happy with the set up. It's a personal choice. Set up for a 50, longer chain, and then try a 47. You may even switch back and forth depending on the ride.
 
How big can I go on the rear and not have to get a new chain?


I've got an almost new 48-tooth Ironman I can send you if you like. I put it on, rode the bike, decided I needed lower gearing, took it off and ordered a 50-tooth. Send me a PM if you want it. That way all you need to do is buy a new chain.
