  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE310 and Sprockets

Running a 47 rear and so far it's a good compromise. Let's me keep up with my friends on the road until we get to the trails and performs fine for the rocks and hills here in AZ. Life is a compromise.

Seems to me the way to go is with a 46 rear and then just change countershaft sprockets depending on where you plan to ride. Since 3 teeth on the rear sprocket is approx. equal to 1 tooth on the front sprocket, then all you'd have to do is change the countershaft sprocket 1 tooth smaller if going single tracking (approx. equal to a stock front sprocket and a 49 tooth rear). If riding on the street or dual sporting, you could add 1 tooth to the front sprocket (simulating a 13/43 setup). You could, of course, run the 13/46 setup and have a decent compromise gear for general riding.

Am I missing something? Are front sprockets a PITA to change? Will no chain length work for this setup given the dimensions of the bike? Anybody know what length chain you would need to pull this setup off? Thanks.

It will increase the wear on the swing arm chain guard and also affects the action of the rear suspension due to physics. It's best to run the largest rear sprocket possible from what I have been told. I run 13/48 and it works well for me. I have a 12t counter sprocket and have ran that with the 48 and it works well too. I was just worried about excessive wear on the swing arm. With the 13/48 I can hit 70 MPH and with a Rekluse it crawls through the tight stuff like magic. My 2 cents worth.

I've got an almost new 48-tooth Ironman I can send you if you like. I put it on, rode the bike, decided I needed lower gearing, took it off and ordered a 50-tooth. Send me a PM if you want it. That way all you need to do is buy a new chain.

I am new to cafe husky and could not figure out how to PM you. I'm interested in your sprocket. Let me know how to PM you. Thanks

Thanks to Mike-AK I got my 49T sprocket. I'm running 13/49 on my 2014 TE310 I had it remapped to the TXC mapping by Bills Husky. I removed the restrictive air box, cat, and opened up the red intake tube. (PM me if you want to know more about this) and went on a 40 mike DS ride. Cruising at 50-55mph was fine and wide open on a flat paved road hit 78. I think the 49T was perfect for the steep trails here in WA. That's my 2 cents. Also I added a keyed ignition this weekend ($25) if anyone wants to know how PM me.

TO: JeffCollinsart - For some reason I can not start a PM - I have a new 2013 TE310 and would like to add an ignition switch. Which wires do I tap into?
I'm also interested in the other mods (box/Cat/etc) that you performed....
Thx,
PJ

My 2012 TE 310 came with both a 50 and 40 rear sprockets and two regina chains.
I was riding with 13-50 for a while ... good for trials, singles, forest ... but too short for linking asphalt roads and running dirt roads ..
I've been riding with a 14-51 for a long time now and I like it for everything.
Same chain. Talon 14T / Renthal 51T.
