  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 te511 as an adventure bike?

Hey guys, frankly I don't see too many posts of this type of bike. I found a local dealer that has a new one that would take my fj1200 in on trade(which on an older bike i am finding harder and harder). I tried putting it on craigslist summer and zero bites at 1500 yet this dealer offered me 1500 for it. I want an adventure bike thats rock solid reliable and duel sported. I imagine an 80/20 spit for fireroads and roads with occasional singletrack. I have my wr300 for singletrack. Is the te511 the bike? I love the looks over the ktm500's. I am guessing its another undiscovered secret thats rock solid like my wr? (I am not worried about parts as I know there will be plenty for years to come)

I'd say go for it. Have you seen Zip Ty's adventure 511? image.jpg

I'd pay attention to the things the bike needs to start before making a decision though. Map 3 from Zip Ty, a FMF exhaust, for more fuel range you can let the tank/seat concepts seat combo for 3 something if you're a contributing member. I think that tank brings it to up over 5 gallons. Sorry, I'm starting to forget stuff. Zip-Ty also makes a oil recirculating kit that is supposed to help the motor last even longer and keep oil from the filter.

For road use people think the transmission ratio is to close but for what you're thinking. It's probably great. Good luck and thank you for the helmet cam. Got it last night and can't wait to try it :)

Cool thx and hope the helmet cam works out good

I really like these bikes but the transmission and oil capacity are my first thoughts of why this will not be a good adventure bike. If you gear it low enough for tight single track fun it is maxed out down the highway. If you gear it for cruising at 65 it is to tall for the woods. The motor holds very little oil so not good for long 1000 miles rides. All depends on your idea of an adventure bike. All that said it is super fun to ride, wheelies for days, rips gravel roads to shreds and is really fun in the open stuff. Been very solid bikes and Well supported and understood (Tinken / Zipty). Like I said before you are more then welcome to sample mine. Its a very cool looking bike with a lot of cool technology and works very well. As you can see from this forum regardless of the horrible mag reviews it is a great bike use actual customers love. there is a Australian mag that tested one against a Beta 520 and said they were dead even.

I use mine for aggressive DSing and love it for that.

Love how it is different looking...

I am not talking 1000 mile trips but more like two to three day trips tops. If I did 1000 mile trips id be looking for a terra for sure(if I could find one that is)

It will pull 15/48's and still allow you to motor the hwy pretty good. Map3, recirculation mod are the biggest changes I would make on it aside from the suspension to fit you.

Understood I'm just trying to give you a feel for what the bike is and can do.

Heh, I didn't know you snagged one of my oil cooler adapters. That will greatly increase the oil life on the 449.

I don't have it installed yet as I was waiting to see what you had up your sleeve but I may just go with a straight cooler or some type of external tank for a bit of volume/cooling but more for volume....in case you hadn't noticed I am a believer in ZipTy. :)

I do have something under my sleeve, my arm! No, I am working on a more compact cooler though. Whatever you go with, you will need a one way valve, the hinge type, for your oil cooler system.

I almost sold my TE310 with plans to turn a 511 into a dual sport but decided to stick with the 310. My 310 does just fine pulling ADV rides. This summer I did 8 days straight at the central ADV rally with no issues other than a sore butt.LOL I remedied that with a seat concepts shortly afterwards. Each day I rode between 125 and 225 miles of trails with some road connections. I think the 511 would be just fine with the usual performance upgrades and protection. Good luck

You need one of these ! This is my version of a adventure bike. Don't have the bike anymore but still have the trailer !

I have 15/41 gearing on my 511 and I can cruise at 65 all day long. I still ride tight stuff with no problem, just more clutch work than before.
