  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 TE310 backfiring and bogging when hot

The fuel is ok and you'd think the injector would be a constant problem? I'm stumped. she fires right up and is normal until ......

It starts bogging when it gets hot and the fan comes on? Maybe a short somewhere in the wiring for the fan? Maybe a bad ground?

So could you elaborate on your version of hot please? I mean, riding tight single track 1st 2nd gear technical or just starting up the bike and riding it on open stuff? Does it get hot within 10 minutes no matter what and the fan turns on? If it gets hot easily I wonder if your water pump impeller is moving coolant. I'm just guessing and trying to get more info regarding the hot conditions . I hope you figure it out soon.

Well I thought it was just in single track but not the case. Took it to the husky dealer yesterday and plugged it it. It was throwing a temp sensor control code, but I just put a new one on the day befor along with a new thermostat... He switched out my ECU with another bike that he knows is good and it did the same thing. The bike was running till it got to 212 degrees and then was stalling....I have engine ice in it...I dunno

I removed my thermostat first thing after buying a 310 but I am a less is more guy. A thermostat bypass is a mess of extra hoses and plastic bends just waiting to screw you out on the trail. Again, I wish you well on your path to finding the root problem. The temp sensors are a known issue on these bikes so it may be possible you got another bad one. I wonder if there is a way to test the sensor and wiring with a VOM?

Joe- you gotta slow down and be more methodical... you're all over the map here. When someone makes a suggestion or asks for a value, please come back with a definitive answer (eg say the valves are at 0.007" or whatever). Quit replacing stuff on a whim (everybody does this, but you're kinda doing blindly: T-stat, coil- but NOT the sparkplug... wtf). And 212°f is NOT overheated (it ain't cool either)- btw, where & how you getting that temp from? (the cylinder will be much-much-much hotter than the top of the radiator.) ...didja ever check for coolant flow; an incredibly easy check, and- if so, why haven't you reported back?

btw, your problem isn't the cooling system, it's probably a lean condition. This might be caused by the fueling system (fuel pump, hoses, filters, sensors, and YES: injector), but your seem resistant to the idea. Why? Is there something else going on?

another thing: what was the part number of the temperature sensor you changed?

what code is " throwing a temp sensor control code"

could you please give definitive answers to those 3 questions (coolant flow, sensor part number, code)?

thanks.

very kewl... thanks for getting back. It's always good when someone writes an ending that gives the rest of us an education.

I take it the stator (or more likely the pickup sensor) was bad? Anything visible? How didja track that down?

thanks.

I have the same problem on my TE 250 2011. Still searching .
I did rebuild top end
try new injector, new coolant sensor, reajust TPS with Ibeat, try another fuel pump, by pass thermostat check the wiring.

If i find before you I will be posting the result.

A frein told me that in the KTM fuel hoses there are some Micro filter and they can clog. Is it the same thing for our bike since it's the same fuel pump.

Hello Falco. I'd the same problem with my te 250 2010. It turned out that the bike is very sensitive with sparkplugs. Lifetime for plugs never over 12 hours. Tried a Brisk plug only 5hours lifetime. I've this evening installed NGK Iridium and hope that this plug will last longer.
