• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC 2017 TX 300

Doesnt seem like there is.

That's was my impression (and fear) when the new ownership took over Husqvarna. KTM makes a really, really nice offroad bike. But, they are bloody everywhere now, and I've not liked the 4CS bikes I've ridden. The Italian WR's were/are impressive performers, different/unique, and relatively cheap (compared to what else is out there). I'm a bit bummed they (Austrians) put white plastic and a "composite" subframe on a KTM and call it a Husqvarna. Would be nice to see REAL diversity between the two brands. However, cost savings are king, and that will likely never happen.

Looks like a Beta would be a good way to have a great bike and stay out of the "orange ocean" at the same time. When "new bike time" comes for me... I'll likely be buying Italian equipment.

The TE will have xplor forks that are supposed to be better then 4cs, guess noone really knows yet. Beta, gasgas, and sherco are always options but regardless of how anyone feels, the changes made for 2017 are a huge jump in weight and performance. Wonder if the other brands even have a plan to catch up.

I wonder if there will be a hundred different threads on how to fix the dreaded xplor forks this time next year. White power has a history of making forks that aren't well received. I wonder if the xplor and aer will be any different?

I have been wondering the same thing about the other Euro manufacturers catching up to KTM/Husky anytime soon. The Beta I have is a cool bike and I like it tons better than the KTM 300 I recently sold, but the Beta is quite a bit behind the current KTM's in several areas.

Would love to hear your comparison.

Seems to me that ktm had to play catch up to beta/Sherco in regards to a decent starter motor! Aside from weight wat has the ktm got over either(beta especially)? Not bein a smart arse jus curious as to people opinions

Weight for the most part and now that they fixed the starter motor. They were lighter to begin with and now they just saved 10-12 pounds. So at roughly 20pounds lighter that's a big deal.

I love to hate ktm but this upgrade is big

The forks alone saved 20 lbs? not.... I agree 20lbs is a BIG difference BUT at least have truthful facts....

Beta 300RR Race is 224 lbs Dry
TX300 is 217 dry
The Beta is more like the TE with headlights and springs.....

Hey hesutton, if you wanna try or buy a Beta, do you know my buddy Colby down in Corbin with Gonzo Speed Shop? He's a Beta dealer now and usually has some bikes in his shop They're right in downtown Corbin in an old drive-in diner. Check them out if you haven't already!

Yeah so prob 5 lbs for headlight/wiring etc you'd imagine. Ktm/husky come with lion batts(?) as that'd save pound or 2 as well. Much a muchness really. I'm not shit canning ktm jus everyone is very hyped bout these bikes. CB may be good thing(didn't GG used to run them?). Weight I agree is pretty good. Mikuni carb?!

Good looking & improved bikes no doubt. Yep starter motor, the way pipe hangs so łow under frame rails n price are/were the only things I really disliked. Starter motor fixed(assumed), can always get a force combo bashy/pipe guard to protect pipe but I highly doubt their prices will become realistic(in AUS at least) any time soon

Don't care about the claimed weights, the old te's from actual reviews were about 10 pounds different from the betas. The 16 mx bikes are rated consistantly at 10 pounds lighter then the previos gen...that's where it came from and it's not just hype. That is a big difference.

Not even saying beta and sherco are a waste of money, they both would probably get the nod from me if i wanted a 300. Just wondering how they'll respond to this and honestly wonder if they can.

Oh and I never said forks alone

Agree KTMs were already lighter - way lighter than Sherco but didnt actually feel lighter

I don't think Cody Webb agrees that they've fix the starter - why was he kicking it at Erzberg?

Maybe he had a wr300 n jus building leg muscles?!;)
Possibly flat batt I guess?

Yes I too hope Sherco n beta especially respond this year with a new model bike. Current model is 4 years old so if not this year then next. Sherco does need a fair old diet if claimed weights are true. Still got me buggered how their 300 4t is lighter than 300 2t?!!

The 300 4st is a nice feeling machine.... and it feels a bunch lighter than the 2 st, whether it is or not is a totally different story....

Both the GG and Sherco need a serious diet.... To me the only 300s that are even serious players in the offroad game are KTM, Husky, Beta, and maybe TM (although we have a dealer close now just not much confidence on importer).....

Subframe is the difference and to me it is meaningful
How so? Not a difference I've noticed when astride a KTM/Husaberg/Husqvarna.

Corbin is close to a 3 hour drive from Bowling Green. Website is sweet. Will have to check it out when I'm over on that side of the state.
