  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

4 stroke "loading up"?

Can a 4 stroke load up like a 2 stroke? Two types of riding Im referring to are 1- riding a gear high in single track, not hammering it but maintaining a steady speed 2- riding with my son on his CRF 50, so going slow without the rev/s to clean it out.

In both cases after riding it a while it seems to want to chug for a while and rev slow when I want to get on it. Seems to be loading up to me?

I know exactly what you mean, but I haven't experienced that since I had an air cooled 2-stroke. My Husky is getting long in the tooth and is less than perfectly jetted at low throttle openings, but it snaps as soon as is needed, so I'm sure your bike can be made to wake up better than mine!

Can you provide any more detailed info regarding ambient conditions, elevation, modifications to the bike etc, so the gurus here can help out? :)

Yep I think it is a carburation/richness issue. If it is a new issue have a look at your plug, it may be fouled, also a good carby clean might be in order.

First off the bike is FI. No mods other than the power up. When I ride faster paced trails or aggrssively ride single track, it runs great and the rev is fine. Just when I maintain a slower speed for a while does it not want to get going when I twist the throttle until I have ridden it harder for a while.

I know what you mean- yes its "like" loading up in my opinion, another factor is it is probably running a bit hotter at that point. Your talking about idling and being off idle on off winding through a maze of 20' popple trees bangen bars on both sides - then comming to a small opening or to a hole or log where you need to launch/wheelie it suddenly.

Jason you have the Arrow PU- with stock spark arrestor in...correct?
If so take th SA out- just to test- and do the exact same thing in the same conditions- if it improves- I'd suggest your lower rpm efi settings are just a bit on the rich side. OR your TPS is off slightly. Unfortunately the 08's only have 1 setting to adjust with Ibeat- finding the right tps setting- coulpled with the right adjustment of the Idle bypass screw is essential in the lower rpms as well.

Since I adjusted my Co settings of my 09' my bike is not sensitive to heat or prolonged off idle play. That's even with a DB type Killer. My bike did pretty well with the Spark arrestor overall. Every bike's settings and needs are a little different.

Couldn't have said it any better. Yes to the Arrow and SA. Ill try your suggestion-thanks.
