• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

430 AE carb tuning

In order to improve my carburation, I'd like to know what are your tuning on your 430 ae.
In service bulletin it is said:
VM 38
Main jet 430
Needle jet R2
Needle 6DH20
Needle position 3 from top

On my 430 AE 84, I have a 400 wr pipe, not a 430 AE pipe. I live at 200 m high. I've started with service bulletin tuning but it is not OK.
Have some auto riders try a needle jet R0 and main jet near 400 ?
Thanks

Problems from mid-throttle to full throlttle ( when the gears change automatically).
It makes bup, bup , bup, bup and not Buuuuuuuuuupppppppp !
I have put the needle from 3 to 2 from the top. ( leaner) and it is better.
I have downsize the main jet from 420 to 410, but at full throttle in 3rd gear it is still awfull.
So, I'd like to know if some 430 AE riders have changed the normal carb tuning.

No relation with that, but fot those who own a 500 AE, mine works perfect with.
Venturi 38
Main jet 390
Needle 7DH3
Needle jet 224 AA 0
Idle 65
Throttle 2.5

I would move the needle clip. If it is best at an extreme change the needle jet. For 1986 I think the specs were different 430 standard vs auto.

I had a project to put the 500 water cooled engine in a chassis like that.

I do know the AE pipes are tuned for Strong mid range over the WR pipes even. You may not have the correct exhaust configuration

Yes the pipes are different between a 400/430 wr and a 430 ae.
But my friend who has also a 400 wrlc 84 pipe with his 430 ae motor has not my problem.
He has a R0 needle jet ( leaner) instead of the standard R2.
I have also tried the carb from my 420 ae and there no problem even with my 400 wr pipe.
Mmm, I must check all that and test some changes.

He also tried the 430 ae pipe on a 1985/86 400/430 wrlc and said there's more power down and more revs up.

The AE chamber appears to have a longer head pipe that enhances the midrange hit that drives the shifting. Because the corner cones are different lengths, I would check outside diameters in relation to the entrance of the chamber. Visually to me, the diameter inline between the pipes appears to be equal and that the 400 chamber was modified or repaired at that point creating the illusion the corners are different. The AE pipe also has a larger stinger diameter that allows more topend(more flow)
