  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449/511 communication with ECU

The one I've made replaces one of the rubber D sections of the tappet gasket.
On the CCM you would need to mount it against the exhaust cam rather than the inlet cam as we do on the 449-511.
Should function just as well.
Able to be reversed simply by replacing the tappet gasket. DSC_0059_1.JPG

Is this for real? Anyone done it, yet? Are there maps? I'm very curious about where this leads but don't personally have the knowledge necessary to experiment.

A new release is available on Google Play Store, the 449/551 and CCM ECU can now be flashed.
Meeou,

You are a life saver!!!
I'll be trying this out very soon.

Thanks for your efforts.
I have not been able to zip the files I wanted to send you, as yet but will attempt to do them again.

Great work guys. I'm keen to help out with mapping. Reckon we need a list of all hardware etc to get this up and running, does anyone have the part number / source for the programmer and also the Pin outs for connections?

I can knock up a diagram and some instructions as I learn the ropes.

I've got the PC5 with a few maps that can likely be reverse engineered back to a standard ECU map as they're all just percentages.

Does anyone know whether you're able to flash both the base map and what is currently race map 2? Be excellent to have two maps.

Don, the pin outs are a few posts back. I would put a link here but I am using my phone; it is hard enough fighting the auto-correct without trying to copy links as well :-)
Regarding the 2 maps, yes they appear to be separately editable.
I tried importing a G450X .pvm into my CCM map2, but TuneECU reckons they in compatible. You may have more luck if your .pvm (.djm) file is based on the exact same base map that you can fownliad from the ECU.
I used an OTG cable from my Android phone to a Linlec cable . I bought from one if the links on the TuneECU site. I the had to make up my own connector to the diagnistics plug.

So, does this work on all of the 449/511 ECU? The locked 2011 TE, or will it work with the traditionally locked TC/TXC?

Thanks magwych and everyone else, I've ordered these parts:

USB Adapter: http://lonelec.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=57_25&product_id=52

OBDII to bare leads: http://lonelec.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=24_61&product_id=70

AMP Enonoseal 6-way male connector: http://www.vizi-tec.com/amp-econoseal-series-connectors/

And wire as per domrvt's instructions:

From the wiring diagram, the diagnostic connector pinout is:
6 - Positive
4 - Keyed Positive
3 - K Line
5 - Ground

An OBD2 connector is:
16 - Positive
7 - K Line
4 - Ground

And Android with TuneECU, should be good to go right?

It would be interedting to see those. I havevseen the .pvm file for the BM G450X runninga Leo Vince and the BM in Sport mode. It is interesting that the OC actually leans out the mapping in a few places, there are no cells where it adds fuel.
It will also be great to compare the Husky and CCM maps.

I can do that, I'll draw my base map and race map 2 out before flashing. Ill try to import the PCV maps I have on hand into tuneECU, and once I've been to the dyno I'll post that up.

Bits should be here next week.

It seems the CCM may be bit more tricksy.
I tried to reprogram the ECU with the same map that I had just downloaded from it. It was hahaving none of that. To be fair to TuneECU they are on the case. Aparently they can reprogram the Husky ECU with my map, so it is likely something in the BMW/CCM set up or my connection.

Im not convinced about this 'locked' 2011 ecu.
I'm able to communicate and upload from the HST on my early 2011 TE.
I had no trouble loading Map3 to it.

For the small cost of the App and hardware, I think you'd be mad not to try it.

I've got access to an HST and have not been able to load any maps. I can perform diagnostic functions, though. Might give it a try. Certainly couldn't hurt

What is the difference between RaceMap2 and Map3? I have an early (white frame) 449 (reg 2010) which is running Map2 with Akra pipe, and secondary butterfly removed. I'd like to know what benefits i might get moving to map 3 now there is a DIY way of achieving this...

For the CCM (, and maybe the Husky too?), pins 4 and 6 of the diagnostic connector needed to be connected together to upload maps. Without that the ECU relay drops the positive feed when the ECU momentarily cuts the earth for that relay.
If I have understood the wiring diarams correctly, this is what I think is happening: The CCM and BMW wiring only powers up the ECU when the starter button is pressed. A feed from the starter button closes the ECU relay. Once the relay is closed the positive feed from it holds it closed. When the kill switch is used it causes the ECU to drop the earth return for the relay activator, opening the main contacts and cutting the power.
