  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449/511 SMR reliability as an everyday ride?

The DRZ and WRX are different bikes then a performance driven Husky. Valve Check for the WR was 24k miles. Yeah, you read that right. But as far as a 250 goes, it was atleast 50 pounds overweight and had a good 30 percent less horsepower

449/511 re-ring @ 10,000 miles, rebuild 14-20,000 miles depending on fuel/oil used & how hard it is ridden.

use my 2004 te 450 daily (now its fixed) but the odometer resets when you chamge the battery so no idea of milage. again i use it on the street more than it was designed to do but thats what makes it fun for me. its a big kids toy and makes me smile every time i go out.

This would be more in line with what i would expect on a street ridden (not raced) 511..re-ring + piston @10,000..check timing chain/valves, Not full rebuild! im guessing its huskys way of making you jump through hoops to maintain your warranty.

Next issue, parts. Will i get bent over on parts KTM style? or are parts for huskys reasonable? they would wanna be if they are expecting people to do a full rebuild at 10K!

Eh i have a good mate who worked at the husky dealer ship for a few years before it shut down i brought my husky smr511(2011 model) in 2012 april. he told me there and then These bikes dont need the rebuild as long as you service them.. had my 10,000 check done at 11.500.. The valves hadn't even moved enough for them to be re-adjusted. ive put just over 13,600kms on it now and the bikes get lovley dose of full throttle every time i ride it. only complaint Ive got now is this silly JD tuner is bugging up and ive been trying to smooth it out for the past 8 months. about to take it off... also i own a 09TC450 the normal top end rebuilds are at 70hours. (for racing.) he told me his seen one with 170hours and it had mild wear on the piston. Soo, yeah

My 2010 smr 510 has 13'000 mil on it and is used as a daily rider
it goes on lots of 125 mile day trips, split the cases at 12'000 to change out a part
put it back teoughter everything inside looked and speced out great
nothing like riding a race bike on the street it is a blast
