  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ok smart people;
Picked up a 2006 TC 450 that needs a little TLC, was thinking of converting to 510/530 for SM racing.
Besides studs, cam chain and con-rod, what else is required?
I have to rebuild the crank anyways, is it just as simple as buying a 510 rod over a 450 rod to convert over? Are the cranks the same?
Lastly, is it Motosportz that supplies the 530 cylinder kit?
Thanks all those that contribute, mostly thanks to 7602 Racing!!

The crank is different So you would need a new crank, chain and studs. The 530 kit comes with the jug. Not sure what else I was considering doing the same thing to my 450 but think I will just leave it alone. Also I am not sure if the carb will work I know all this has been talked about before maybe someone can give us a link.

A new crank huh? damn...
I tried the search function but only got something about 530 kit installed.
Ill keep my eyes peeled for a crank then.

The offset of the big end pin dictates the stroke not the length of
the con rod

Why not save some coin and order the 530 kit for your 450. Have the 530 jug milled down to the same height as the 450 jug and your done.

So, thats just a 20cc upgrade?
Thankfully its a back-up engine and i have some time to search for a used 510 crank.
Halls lists a complete crank for $970 - a bit pricey!
How important is it to have the counter-balancer? and the TC 5speed tranny is practical for paved track duty?
Id imagine that with the loss of the starter and gears, counterbalancer and 6th gear, that would also make the bike lighter :)

I think you would be better off selling the 450 and buying a 510. Major mod projects always cost more that you thought they would, and used motorcycles are pretty damn cheep. I've seen 510s with < 1000 miles sell for well under $5K US. There was a 510TE in No. Cal with 400 miles that was on craigslist for weeks. It was listed as; "First $4.000 takes it. Need the money for school." Another one south of San Francisco with 50 (yes fifty) miles sold for $5,500 and it included the PU kit, a lowering link, a stand, one of the jack type carriers, and other goodies. I just missed that one. Keep looking, the deals are out there.

Halls had a used crank that needed rebuilding a little while ago. Call and ask for Jeff in parts.

The 530 kit adds 31cc. Stock 510 is 501cc's and the 530 puts it up to a 532cc

I am really thinking about doing a 450 -> 480. Take the 530 jug and mill it down to the height of the 450's and have a 31cc big bore setup. This will be 1/4 the price of a 450 -> 530 conversion.

Thanks everyone. I already have a fresh 450, so converting to a 510/530 with this engine sounds fun - cost-wise, I have 5 months to get this one ready as our racing season doesn't start till the end of May, and I doubt I'll blow this (450) up. It'll sure be nice to have that extra 80cc for the last 2 rounds ;)
