• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC 4CS Issues

so Adam installs the green mud scraper covers on? I have a set but was not sure to install them , Wp paperwork says for wet muddy conditions.......we don't see much of that..... Nice pack up Chums, that's a real professional set up. Im sure the things will be exceptional as stated by many testers.

I installed the scrapers, leaky seals after 15hrs of normal non-muddy riding. Haven't had leaky seals since, not sure if its due to a bad original seal or the scrapers though.

So you had leaky seals with or without them? I have a set of SKF scrapers that came with my forks too but I haven't installed them. If its sloppy at Loretta's I'll pop them on tomorrow night. It says on the package to not run them unless it's sloppy.

I put the green meanies on i cut off the hard nylon plastic oem ones,, the instructions read to keep them, slide them up and ziptie them onto the forks under the triple clamp.....that was too hokey, also installed new flexxbars red red for now

OK, got a chance to ride my rebuilt 4CS today for a few hours of single track and a little MX. Wow, this is what I expected when I bought the bike. Sadly, $700 later the forks are amazing. I also had my shock rebuilt and re-valved and there's a very good improvement there as well. Logs, embedded rocks, whoops, roots, it soaked up everything like never before. Even pinned it in 3rd gear on the big hill climb so I could launch the bike at the top. It didn't bottom and felt like I landed in a huge snowdrift. Guess the Huck valves did their job. Amazingly, I never touched 1 clicker the whole time, and there's 4 now. I figured I'd need some small tweaks but once again Jeremy nailed it on the settings. I'm terrible at describing how suspensions work but I can tell you that it's better at everything now especially downhills. I was flying down steep hills that I would normally have issues steering on before. I would used get some significant chatter in the linkage on down hill braking and that's all gone now. Traction everywhere, I was really shocked how much better the bike handles now. Sheesh, I wonder why I waited. At least it's fully sorted now. Time for a new bike...Haha

OK so I'm sitting here at work after 3 days of riding the mtdr event at loretta Lynn's this past weekend. My legs are burning, I can't stop smiling and the 4cs forks are officially amazing! I'm pissed I waited a full season to have them rebuilt. The hills of Tennessee where brutal on the bike with root steps 3 feet high, embedded rocks, hard pack and tons of chop. They soaked it all up and it felt like the bike was glued to the trail. Got some serious air on the uphill and downhill water brakes and no hard bottoming with the Huck valves. What a blast. Now to deal with how to make it through 5 days of work....

Good to hear. Need to send a friend to get his done. 3 revalves and he still hates them and was struggling this weekend. He is a real fast A guy on a 350 and I was able to keep up with him and did not know why til I heard his forks were total crap. He usually leaves me in the dust. This proves how important fork performance is.

Glad I'm finding out about the 4CS issues while trying to decide between a new TE300 or a Sherco 300 SER. If I go with the local dealer and choose Husky it sounds like I need to budget in a fork fix. Sherco is sounding better all the time, but no dealers in the Northeast yet.

For what its worth the stock 4CS suspension on my 14 TE 300 was the worst if not the most dangerous suspension I could have ever imagined. After sending it to Kreft for the full meal deal I can say its the best I've ever had. I went with Kreft because they are as close to local as I can get. I'm sure others can make the 4CS suspension work very good as well. I would not consider a new bike with the 4CS suspension without budgeting for the suspension upgrade. Its sad that we can spend so much on a bike and it has such a defective suspension. I will probably go with a different brand in the future.

Sounds like most of you guys would be better off waiting for the day hover bikes are released.
Seriously I don't know how you've come up with so much terrible feedback on the 4cs.
I sold my Burg 300 which was bloody hard work to race at any pace & picked up a new fe350, I did a quick 25km ride just to see what I had & apart from blowing through the mid I thought it was a good start.
Then I sent the suspension off to my local guy who doesn't try to reinvent the wheel but instead uses a common sense approach & just fixes any problems in the stack or does a shim shuffle to suit rider ability.
So now with the correct springs & new shim stack it handles beautifully, the bike is set up for Enduro Racing on tight single trail with every type of terrain covered in each ride.
I'm 100% happy with my 4cs & feel my pace & front end confidence picking up each ride after being tormented by the Burg for so long.

Hey all this is still a very subjective area as far what is "wrong" or not about the 4CS system. I mean really are "you" a beginner, an expert a pro level rider/racer, where do ride the thing there are a million variables out there. For me the forks were terrible. I was bummed because I wanted that planted feel that Ive felt on my friends XC and XCF-W, etc Katos. Its a very personal feel thing what I like 90% of folks probably wont. I have ridden a few world class offroad pro's bikes, some were plush and amazing and one still sticks out in my mind he raced Kaw and TM and I have ridden both brands of his race bikes at various times (ISDE Gold medalist/Trophy Team Champions) he ran his suspension like an SX bike along with his engine tuning like full MX, impossible for me to comprehend. Another guy from the same country same resume' (+world enduro champion) his stuff was right up my alley, smooth, easy to manage........ so this subject is super personal. But the thread is good to share for references.

It's troublesome for someone like me contemplating a new Husky to hear so many folks complaining about how bad these 4CS forks are, but it doesn't totally put me off buying one. Truth is I've had to send the suspension out on every bike I've ever owned to get it to work right in the New England roots and rocks except for one, which was my 2011 GG. It seemed everyone hated the Sachs units that came on that bike, but it worked better for me right out of the box than the WP stuff on my previous bike (450EXC) that I spent mega bucks getting sorted out. It wasn't quite as plush, but it didn't deflect and seemed to worked really good everywhere. Just goes to further prove (as previously mentioned) what works for one person may not work for another.

If I go with the Husky I'll break it in and see how things go. From what I'm hearing from several folks the 4CS suspension went from worst ever to best ever after tuning, so at least there is hope and several shops out there that know exactly how to fix them. If I end up with the 4CS I'll definitely post up my impressions here.

OK checking in with new set of fork springs---I went from .48 to .46 I still have the 6.0 on my Trax shock and am still playing shock clickers....the .46 for what Im doing is spot on I clicked in 2 more comp clicks and opened the reb up more. this fork change is to my ZIpTy mod forks, everything working super well. only a few soft bottoms today- rode hard

I'm probably slower than you and have the same complaints and then some. My biggest complaint is the total lack of confidence in the front to go where I want it to go. Right now my 2015 350 XCF is a garage queen until I decide to sell it or spend the $800 -$1,000.00 it's going to take to fix KTM's not so good forks. I think KTM/Husky should offer us 4CS owners a 1K rebate .

Same here. I spent more money for a 14 xcf because of all the hype on these forms. Should have saved $1500-$2000 and got a left over without the fork issues. When I first ride the bike I thought man, chilly is right, these are going to be nice once resprung and broke-in. But they just kept getting worse. Went with zipty mod and am happy so far. Haven't got to ride to much with the weather but just bouncing on it after I got them back was a huge difference. Might have to dial in a little more compression, but seems really close.

Any tight woods riders happy with these forks, specifically on the 4 strokes, or are they set up poorly for that as well?
