• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TE/TC 4CS Issues

Halls did it as I have them revalve the front and rearbof most every bike I buy. There are a few exceptions but all motocross bikes I revalve. It is tough to get a good compromise but I tell them I want to he able to pound thru whoops but be soft as well and jot deflect off of every thing. A tough thing to do. Just got back from riding while not quite as soft like I like they are a great compromise that allow me to maintain speed thru the whoops. I feel lucky as I have not touched a clicker on this bike since getting it from halls. To my knowledge only jay himself does the suspension work. Very good people. It is just simpler to have them do it prior to picking up instead of the waiting game and mailing etc...I am told this chassis can benifit from a steering dampner not because of crappy forks but because of the geometry of the chassis in general. Simple to me as well with the Scott's rubber submount there is less vibration transmitted to the rider which in turn translates into less rider fatique and ability to ride faster longer....front end seems well planted and not sketchy and predictable as well.between all this and a strong engine I'm maintaining third gear in some areas I normally am in second. Mostly I think due to the giving engine but the forks don't feel bad either!
 
Thanks fletch. I've used Halls for any parts I've need with my Huskys and they have always been great to deal with.
 
I have had my forks apart more times than hot dinners. Tried a heap of things with stock parts including swapping the checks around so both legs are comp only adjustment, various stacks from knowledgeable people and also a kreft mid valve, race tech base adjuster and checks removed which I didn't really like, I'm sure with more testing they could have worked better.

I have used Terry Hay at Shock Treatment previously and went a different way with this bike initially and was interested to try Terry's setup based off his comments on other forums. I done a deal with him with some older gold valves from a previous bike so I had all the parts to try his latest 4cs setup and installed them this week with some minor changes to his recomendations due to availability of parts and tools in mudgee.
Rode them today, very wet and rocky down the back of Lithgow with a half worn mitchy 403 on front, they are the best forks I have ever ridden. Soft yet rocks and bumps are non existent. Front end traction was unreal given the conditions and front tyre.

I can now see why guys in the states rave about the 4cs when setup, the Kreft setup just didn't do what I wanted, not like what Terry suggested using the Race Tech base adjusters and G2r base valves.

I like what I just read bowser so is your set up something we can get done here in the USA? I KNOW I'm not capable of doing anything with forks myself. Thanks for your input.
 
Yes, Terry has mentioned on KTM talk if you buy the race tech parts (didn't have to be from him) he will help you out from over the pond, shoot him an email. he has been very helpful to me giving me setup tips and technical support for these forks.
Honestly can't rave highly enough for both Terry's support and the front end now.

I'm sure the Kreft setup could have been changed to suit what I wanted but his settings were right straight away, only change was a half turn on the compression adjuster. Rebound was sport on.

my Kreft mid valves will now be put up for sale, these forks won't be apart again until I have to change oil or do fork seals

At the time the forks were done I was not aware of all the drama with the forks so honestly I am not sure what a revalve consists of. My advice would be to call jay directly and ask what the process is.
 
I got my suspension back yesterday and raced a Hare Scramble today. It is still in the 4CS mode and has been valved and has some mods. The track was mostly on a side hill and some in cornfields and hayfields in the valley. Lots of off camber roots, rocks, ruts, ditches, mud holes hill climbs big and small; fast log roads, tighter trail, hayfield and cornfield grass track, some small jumps too. You're crawling in second to tapped out in sixth.

The forks are simply excellent... They suck up everything from little chop, to big stuff and are very plush. They run true, with no real deflection and I don't run a steering damper. The terrain today gave them a real workout.... I'm very happy with the performance and stoked that I still have easy adjustment, right on the top of the fork!

That's great to hear. I've been following Terry's thread over on KTMTalk and it 's great how he's helping folks. Nice you were able to do it yourself and get these results.
 
Yes it's really good to read some guys are starting to get a handle on the 4CS. I rode my 2015 XCF350 for the first time since before Xmas today and the front is still as bad as I remember and I didn't even leave my 9 acre yard. Congrats Norman.
 
My 14 TE300 with factory connection is the absolute worst suspension ever.... Any acceleration or braking bumps and it would be a foot off the ground bouncing.....

I gotta do something
 
I feel for suspension companies and the new internet, they can't win with all the internet heroes who expect to become an instant A rider with a re-valve. This bashing is rediculous, if you have a beef with the job deal with the company and grow a set of balls instead of crying on the net. Now I see why my suspension guru is absent here.
 
My friend works for KTM and they do tons of testing up here with Factory Connection. FC does a lot of suspension work for them and they love the results. Not sure what the issue is with your setup, but there are plenty of folks around here that have good experiences with them. I used them once and they did a great job. Is it possible whoever they set it up for before asked for something unsuited to where you ride? Springs rates off maybe?

I have a friend, who won ECEA Enduro B250 Class last season and is riding well in the A250 Class this year. He's on a KTM 300XC with FC suspension and just raves about it. I guess we have to wait until the first ECEA Rock Run, for a final judgement?
 
Like what has been said before each setup is different for each person.... I like my forks pretty stiff.... These are stiff on the big hits which is good but really stiff on the small stuff too which gets rough....

I haven't looked up what I should be running yet but it's got 46 springs, 680cc of oil and 15 on comp and 12 on rebound

racemx904 not sure when yours were done but they just came up with that new BCV valve system in the last few months and I think that's what makes a big difference in the 4CS. Worth giving them a call, it probably wouldn't be too expensive if you don't need new springs. Not trying to promote FC, but I did send mine there and have been happy with them.
 
Well I called factory connection today and they have a deal going that if your bike has FC suspension already it only costs you labor and parts right at $120.... So the box is on the way.... Explained what I wanted and they said no problem
