• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

510 or 610, what should he know?

Got this pm today;
hi I am debating whether to get a sm510 or 610. thought I'de ask a question if you don't mind. Is it true that the 08 sm610 doesn't have (either) the rebound or compression adjustment on the fork? And lastly, besides the objection regarding the 510's maintainence schedule, can you give me a couple of reasons to get a 610 over the 510.
thanks a bunch ____

My answer was;
Hey ____
The 510 and 610 in my mind are two completely different animals which cannot be directly comparable
The 510 is a real racing bike and a relatively new design at that, what it means for you is more power, leas weight, all the bells and whistles as far as tuneability goes
It was not design to cruise the hwy for long periods and the maintenance intervals are shorter and less “slack”

The 610 is an older dual sport design (older then the Suzuki DRZ, I think)
Compared to the 510 it has less power, more weight, longer and more relaxed maintenance intervals and you can adventure/cruise the hwy for days or as long as you can stand the seat

To make the right decision between them you need to figure out (and be true to yourself, it will only serve you in the long run…) what are you going to do with the bike and what are you willing to put up with service wise

Reasons to get the 610 you ask for?
Well; as old as the basic design is it still a top notch bike (which sadly shows you how slow moving is the medium size dual sport segment is) it has plenty of power to suite your every need, the maintenance is not too complicated as far as I understand if you want to do it yourself and the unique look of the 610sm is the best looking motard in existence or a close second after the Aprilia SXV in my mind

Good luck with your choice

Although the guy is asking about the SM the basic answer should be good for the TE line too, right?
Care to share your thoughts on the matter with us?
More experienced 610 riders (:notworthy:that means lots of people ‘round here…) can chime in and as I’ve yet to ride the 510 it’ll be interesting to hear their side of the story

Help the guy make a knowledgeable decision --> :oldman: + :professor: % :ride: = :D

:thumbsup:

thanks Waters, I think I'm gonna have to go with the 610 as I would like to reserve the ability to cover some ground. Now all I have to do is find a black 08

Muddy,
Tell the guy about supermotojunki and go into the manufacture forum under husky. These guys know what is what. I prefer the 610 for the wide ratio gear box but if I raced SM I would go with the 450 or 510.

No problem Bully, figured it’ll be for the greater good to have more knowledge behind my answer but I don’t know; either I’ve nailed the answer just right or the people in the know are just busy doing other things?
Anyway looks like a decision was made; 08 in black,
I can defintly relate :notworthy:-->

Hey there Mr. Palmer
He’s actually a member at Supermojojojo
When you take a look at CafeHusky “introduce yourself” thread you’ll notice that almost every other member as of late is a “motard” one
I’m beginning to think that there are more of us here then over there? :excuseme:

I think this place in no time will become the Mecca of all things Husky excluding lawn mowers and guns so we might as well start keeping the information here instead of outsourcing it….

:thinking:JustaThought ( <-- BlipBlip! Really needs to trademark this thing:lol:)

All kidding aside, for those who do not know; there is some good rambunctious hooligan knowledge at SMJ:cool:

:thumbsup:
