  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

This is one of our events with more open going but still it has a fair share of tight single track.

Here's a photo (hopefully) of this years D2D event, it rained all day. Its me on my WR250 by the way.:)
12hrs, 35th out of 217 finishers as a two man team.

This is at my local spot loads of very tight woods stuff there, if you know where to go :D. Where you from Brock?

hilarious, the KTM rider blaming the bike:lol:. It's the rider most all the way. I do things like that regularly. Lose a little nerve and/or comitment in a dificult section and stall out or balance the wrong way and you just tip over. The advantage of the smaller bike like the TE250/310 over the 510 is that it is a lot less difficult to handle when you get bent out of shape. But the added torque of a larger engine makes it harder to stall and you have to worry less about the cluch and keeping the rev's up on the nasty uphills and can concentrate on your line and keeping your momentum up. I have not ridden a 510 but spent a number of years riding narly single track on my DRZ400S, which is a real pig compared to any of the husky's/ktm's, until this last year when I got an 2006 TE250. With the TE, I picked up some speed and can actually almost keep up with the local guys I ride with in Arkansas in the rocky narly sections. They still ride much faster than me in the smoother sections. Back to the point of its the rider not the bike. One of them does ride a KTM530, but several of the others ride DRZ400's. One even rides a clapped out KLR650 occasionally. He even finished an enduro race with it a couple of years ago that was hard enough that less than 1/2 the competitors finished the race. I'll be heading down to Arkansas for 2 1/2 days of riding for new years day in a week or so to the Brock Creek riding area that some others have posted video from. This has some brock creek video. I'll be trying out the trials tires here.

I ride & race my TXC 510 in all sorts of nast single track/goat path type places. I feel like its an advantage over the smaller bore bikes because you can use the torq to your advantage.

Here is my race report from a few weeks ago from the Ozark 100 Miler extreme event.

Here is a video clip from my ride yesterday, this section is way harder than it looks. There are very few people that I've seen clear this ledge...

And a failed orange attempt...

Looks fun. :thumbsup:You want tight, you should try some mountain bike single track sometime. We did a section in CO in the Vail area a couple of years ago. 6 inches wide the entire way and quite a handful on my DRZ400S.

I would not call those tight. here is a vid of an area near here that is tight. So tight you have to slip the clutch in 1st for miles. I was on my rekluse equipped YZ at the time. About 1.35 minutes into the vid it is so tight it makes you sick to watch, and this is not even the real tight stuff. The dude I am chasing is on a 125. I like meeting Fitness2go and Ioneater here and watching them have at it. Good times.

Post up some pics when you get her.
You won't be sorry it's a great D/S bike.

I am 6'0", 170 lbs and I ride recreationally mostly on desert terrain. The difference in weight, both actual and percieved, between my '09 TE510 and my '07 YZ450F is very noticeable. That being said, though my YZ is much more flickable, it is set up for motocross. I have the TE set up for trail riding and find that in general it does well. However, when I play on trails where I have to manhandle the bike it will wear me out quickly. You have to stay smooth on the 510 which in my opinion makes it a poor choice for racing on tight trails. It is a great play bike though, even in the tight stuff.

I agree with the post above. Currently I ride an 09 te510 and an 05 yz250 2t. The 250 feels like a mountain bike compared to the te, however thats not to say the te isn't capable of railing on the single track. You just need to keep a greater margin of error and realize the extra heft of the bike means you need to brake sooner and plan on running wider given the same speed. That being said the te feels very similar to a steel framed yz450 with a desert tank installed and completely full, which is a good thing, nice and planted, really stable and predictable, and likes to steer from the rear.

I spent an afternoon riding single track with a friend that had a YZ450F and after 10 miles I sat down, took off my helmet, had a power bar and beverage while I waited at least 5 minutes for him. He found his moto-x bike way too stiffly sprung for single track even after I loosed up the compression adjusters. It was almost funny watching him try to ride that bike in a log, rock and mud infested trail. Even when the trail opened up to to a sandy/rocky two track he was all over the place in the corners. I wouldn't ever consider his YZ as a bike good for anything other than a groomed moto-x track if my hand was working the throttle.

All he did is complain about how sore his arms were and wondered if he would be able to last another 75 miles without killing himself.

Fast1, haven't seen many posts from you for a while! How's your 510 holding up? You've got to have a kadillion miles on it now!

510 is still purring like kitten and haven't even had to adjust the valves yet after 8000 miles and 290 hours.

Unfortunately haven't been able to ride much offroad this year due to an ACL reconstruction and then just recently removal of the ill placed tibiual interference screw that was 3mm into my knee joint.

I've finally made my first treks up and down stairs this week.. injuries just plain suck..

I did add this to the stable since it's all I've been able to ride with the bad leg...

I've been riding my '04 510 in the tight woods for years. I absolutely love the bike. It handles well and has plenty of grunt to get me through most anything I put it up against. Would it be my first choice? No way, but I made the most out of what I have. A Trials tire, suspension re-valve and a G-2 throttle tube made a world of difference. I also had the engine rebuilt last year and it seems to get better each ride. I'm ready to go another six years with the beast!
