• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

610 cable route query

Hi peoples, felt my clutch cable letting go on the way home from work today. Lucky i have my new (longer) Barnett ready to go :)

So i hooked it up easy enough, the same way i took the old one off although it just doesn't seem to flow properly. It definately isn't an easy pull on the lever either like a new cable should be.....
When working the clutch the outer cable flexes up and down with each pull. Sure sign that it's not free flowing.

I hate how it travels out at 90° to the carby and out and then needs to hook back to the clip on the motor. Really needs to have a 'directional change' in the cable as it passes the rear break master cylinder.

I have it running up where the radiator clamps to the main frame (backbone) and then up to the handlebars. As i don't have risers on my bars i find the best way is to thread through between the bar and the crossbar. I have the '06 610 with the skinny bars.

So i'm pretty sure it's run the best way it can be but it definately doesn't feel good. What do you think?

:(

This probably doesn't help you but I just replaced mine as well with a 2 inch longer one I got from Hall's and it had a metal elbow in it that sends it up near the cooling fan. Mine is routed the same as yours and works fine. It may be the cable is too long(I have risers) and the extra length may allow more flex and drag as you describe.

I used some cable lube when I replaced my clutch cable and now it's really smooth.

A metal elbow in the cable would be the go begeberg. Not sure if a longer cable is what i need though given my predicament.
Cable lube hey? I haven't yet lubed this cable yet as it slips really well being new (when straight). I have always used WD40 on my cables which worked well.

On a side note, i broke my clutch side perch yesterday (unrelated) so if anyone has advice on a new perch/lever combo that would be appreciated.
