• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

630 Longevity Concerns

And not to mention you can get a TE for less than half the money. That's a LOT of coin!!

Yes you're right

I I'm sitting at about 7500 miles on mine, it's 6 years old this year. Obviously it mostly sits in the garage. Oh well!

Concerning to milesage, your bike is still a teenager :D

I'm starting this season at close to 16,000 miles on mine. I still feel the same: no other bike I've enjoyed as much, but no other bike I've trusted less. That's not entirely fair, though, because overall the bike hasn't let me down in any significant way. It's just the niggling things that have, at times, diminished confidence. Overall I've had a good run of it w/ the 630:

- Two blown left hand radiators- kind of pricey. The OEM's just can't be trusted. This is now a known issue.
- Leaking fuel pump mount. Known issue, now, with no great confidence inspiring fix. Pain to get sealed up but it's held. Still, it's always on my mind and constantly checking it.
- Leaking clutch master cylinder- also a now known issue. I did the rebuild kit and it's held up fine.
- A frayed wiring harness where it enters the VR. Little more than an annoyance, and a bit of a pain to fix, but it did strand me...and it's now an on-going point of concern.
- Cracked engine casing from the RH oil screen tip coming loose and being hammered through the bottom of the casing. That was VERY expensive/time consuming.
- A short somewhere in the tail I still haven't found (and have yet tried hard enough to find, to be honest)- so the right turn signal, in back, doesn't work. I really need to work on that- the thing hasn't been inspected in two years because of that. :)
- Vent pipe from valve cover gasket to airbox shrunk- had to replace. Easy/no big deal.

Also did the clutch hub fix, of course, but I see that as part of the deal w/ these bikes...just has to be done. I pulled it about a thousand miles ago to inspect and the Indy Unlimited washers are holding up pretty well. I think they're certainly diminishing, but by no more than a third.

I'm sure there are other things I've forgotten, but clearly they'd be minor. And again in all fairness to the bike I've not been easy on it. It's done a lot of tarmac, and each time I ride it I ride it pretty enthusiastically- not abusively but I sure do get into it. Fun, fun bike.

I'm a bit more lucky than you are (so far) ;) . 18.000 km and the only problems I've had are:
-A burnt wire near to the Voltage regulator. That meant charging issues that drove me nuts for a while. The problem has been solved (I opened a thread about it)
-Leaking clutch master cylinder: This was the same problem in my TE310. It is magura fault, not Husqvarna. Anyway, a small issue.

41k km and counting. Only real problem was too rich af ratio, did make cold starting difficult. Did try sensor replacement, injector cleaning, new pump, swearing etc...Only to find out it was choking in gas. 10%leaner and no difficult to start anymore. Clutch master leaks, normal magura.Fill in couple months. Clutch washers replaced, normal for this engine( to tell the truth, they did not look too bad.much better than what was in 610) and clutch basket needs replacement sometime. So far so good... It had 32k when i bought it so i dont know what has been done previously, but it was stock looking, exept lambda plug.
Just wondering how long rod bearing might last...

My rod bearing lasted just 17,000 kms! Hardening started coming off the crank pin. Replaced the crankshaft with SWM650 crank.

What type of oil did you use?

My SM 630 is running great after more than 22000 km. It's all stock, I only adjusted the fueling in iBeat, and still using it with the O2 sensor. Even the clutch cush washers are still original, although I am planning to change them the next winter. The only problem I had was the crank position sensor fault, which was a pain in the ass to diagnose but easy to fix.

Well, after a few years of Husqvarna hiatus, I'm back! I'm picking up a 2011 SMS 630 today with 4,500 miles. It has the Leo Vince dual pipes (I know people prefer the single) and JD Jetting on it.

It'll be used mainly for a downtown commuter and a go-kart track toy. In the past, I've had the following SMs so I'm excited to get one that's more "commute friendly"

DRZ400SM
YZ426 Supermoto
SM610
690SMC

Welcome back! I wish I had the SM as well as my TE.

I'm curios about why you decided to come back to HVA after the KTM? If you don't mind me asking

Honestly I was done with supermotos. I was on an RC390 and RSV4, and those were great for commuting and track duties. Now that I've decided to dedicate the RC390 for track only, I see the value in supermotos again. The 690 was always so twitchy and wasn't great around town. I was happy to try another bigger "tamer" supermoto. It's definitely less power but better for city commuting duties.

can I see how you solved the problem? I have the connector burned even at 13500 km

43000km
Issues documented early on under warranty
ECU wiring originally diagnosed as tps issue ended up being corroded wire .
Water temp sensor
Clutch master went when new .
After warranty
Slave has now gone , leaking engine oil in.
Charging issues .. Voltage drop through wiring loom and burnt wiring at stator plug.Intetestingly replacing plug only made a small change as did adding extra earth at reg. The thing that brought it back up to full charge volts was adding a extra fused power out wire at reg plug straight to battery.
It's been a good work house .

Well my TE630 is back up and running strong. FYI the SWM RS650 crankshaft is a direct replacement for the Husky crank at half the price. (In Australia, anyway.)
