• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

650 TERRA - BREAK LIGHT

Hello All,

Does anyone else have an issue with their brake light being permanently on bright? Any advice on what to check.

Kind regards
George

I've not checked mine. Maybe check the rear brake switch isn't gummed up. No 29 in diagram below.

I had it on mine and several other I know had the same. It is almost always the 'mickey mouse' tab on the rear brake pedal not correctly aligned with the small lever on the microswitch. Bend it up or do as I have and add a small zip tie to align with the microswitch and activate it properly.

Yeh same problem, had mine replaced under warranty.
Cheap micro switch set up for a adventure bike.
I bet the BMW 650 has a proper set up.

Four Terra's in our riding group. So far three have had the brake light always on thing, and on each it was the tab on the foot lever. a very quick fix. Seems to happen when using a lift.

Saw that this will not work with ABS systems, but not sure why exactly.
Surely hydraulic pressure from the 'pedal actuator' activates the brake and would activate the switch in the same way. ABS is merely a way of controlling 'excess' braking by momentarily relieving pressure.

Perhaps they mean it will not 'fit' the ABS bikes due to the different type of line coupling which does not have a 'banjo bolt' on the top of the 'pedal actuator'

Has anyone successfully retro-fitted a hydraulic switch to replace the mickey mouse set up on a Strada?

Pottering around...

I would like to add that with the micro switch issue, bending the tab on the brake pedal did not fix it for me. I had to bend the tab on the switch itself. I had to remove the switch and use two needle nose pliers to bend that stinkin little tab enough to protrude past the frame/backstop so the tab on the pedal would actuate it.

If that wasn't going to fix it, I was fully prepared to eliminate that switch and just run my brake light off the front brake switch.

Hello mag and others with this brake issue.

As far as I experienced the rear brake switch needs to "break" instead of make to have the brake light (relay) on.
What I did is shrinking heat crimp (cable) on the very small switch lever, because nothing at the pedal was bent.

Have done 3500 kms now and loved every single km on it!

Yes, the tr650 has reached the level of 17600km. This bike has been amazing! I have been riding the basic one, no mods! I have just added panniers and a tank-bag and a self-designed wind-deflector. That's it! Even tires have been amazing!
What has gone wrong? The rear fender (my fault-hitting the panniers) and now the brake light doesn't turn off!
The braking pads has not been changed, does it make sense or is this related?
Please reply with info

Look under the brake pedal. You will see a metal tab that engages the brake light switch. If it is bent downwards it won't engage the switch. If not you may have dirt wedged under the switch leaf and if that's the case contact will not be made and the brake light will not come on.
