• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

650 Terra, let's get buyers count

So I decided that I needed a new bike for a recently purchased cabin (near Sonora, CA). I live in the SF Bay Area. I started reading the forums, including this one. I then called a couple of dealers. Not too much in stock within 2 hours of me. This morning....I had to run an errand down South, and the next thing I know this red thing jumped onto my truck ramp (rated for 600 lbs + air suspension on the GL, not to worry).

My first impressions are very positive.
I only started riding a few years ago, so late in life. I have an MV Agusta Brutale and a Ducati Hypermotard 1100s. The former replaced a BMW K1200rs, as this broke my mental rule about bikes needing to weigh around or under 400 lbs. I never rode dirt bikes, like most seemingly did in their youth on this forum. I grew up in Europe, and was more interested in making other sort of trouble. But I digress.

The shiny new Terra made a good first impression, aesthetically. Great proportions and the ergos were perfect for me. At 5 ft 10 + and 175lbs I can flat foot it wearing cowboy boots. Bars are perfect height, even after standing up. Maybe I am doing it wrong. The throttle is so amazingly progressive and can really be finessed. Clutch take up is perfect. In comparison...My MV Agusta is so snatchy and nervous. It can really buck you off when maneuvering in slow traffic. The Hyper wheelies at anything more than 1/2 throttle in the first 2 gears. This Husqvarna beastie is civilized and very easy to ride. The sound at idle was at first disappointing, or a little "agricultural". I am new to singles, so please do not take offense. But when revved to 5K it developed a very nice snarl. I think I will get used to the character. What really surprised me was how tossable this thing is in corners. It lays right down when I push on the bars. The brakes seem to be up to par, and I am used the bite that the Brembos can deliver. I am very pleased overall, and I cannot wait to see how much I can do on dirt. Or how much I suck. I have taken the Keith Code superbike school to improve my road skills, and I might take the equivalent course to learn the other surface (any recommendations are welcome). I am off to ride her home, but I wanted to send this quick into and add to the buyer count. I paid msrp, btw, which seemed fair enough considering the old rule about supply and demand.

It is also fitting that this bike is a mixed breed. Made in Italy, with some bits made in Asia, owned and managed by the Germans. I do not mind that it is not a pure generic Swede. I look forward to mixing it up, and I cannot wait for some of the accessories to land stateside, and of course to get some miles under my belt.

regards
lk

Ah, you were not too far from me! I see you got it at Moore and Sons. I've never been there, but I'll probably go there to look at(and most likely buy) the TR650. How was your experience there?

It's so hard to resist going over there, especially as I'm only about 30mins away! But, finances win for now.......

The experince at moore and sons was drama free. It is a family shop and very small. John is the friendly owner, his son runs the counter, and John's wife does the books and did my dmv paperwork. I paid msrp, which was fair considering local supply and the thin profit margin on the machines. The bike was prepped and ready. I got a box with the manual and the usb dongle. John and his mechanic helped me with the tie downs for transporting the bike on my truck ramp. All went well.

Glad to hear it. MSRP is very fair, I thought for sure such a small shop would be a little bit over list. Thank you for sharing!

Bought my TR650 at Eurosport, Asheville, NC, on Saturday, October 27. Paid MSRP, but I was happy with what they allowed for my trade. Eurosport is a good shop. I bought the Terra to ride in the mountains, for fun. As I drove home to Johnson City, TN, superstorm Sandy's started rolling in. Nasty weather grounded me til this weekend when I managed to get in 150 miles in the mountains. 64 mpg. This is my first big thumper. I'd describe riding this bike as pure joy. I love it. Zero issues so far with the bike, it seems perfect for my 59 year-old style. The manual on the flashdrive is disappointing. The Terra's power is surprising, satisfying and manageable. The handling in the mountain twisties inspires confidence and has me grinning. I've really enjoyed my VStrom as a very good bike for the money, but I wanted something with a bigger fun factor, and the TR650 is definitely it.

If anyone interested, Toytech in Grantville PA just got in a Strada that is not spoken for and they are also receiving a Terra in a few days that is also available. Great bunch of guys as far as the "right " coast goes....

Thank you! That is truly exciting to me. My cousin just got back from Italy and one of the things that really struck her was how proud the Italians are of their work and who they are.

Hey, I live in Piney Flats and test road a Terra at the Asheville shop on Saturday. I liked it enough to find this forum and join to learm more about the bike. Just might pull the trigger on one soon.

First post and first Husky!

Bought a Terra at BMW Motorcycles of Las Vegas on Wednesday 5 Dec 12. It's the second one sold in Vegas! All the guys at this shop are awesome! Third bike I have bought there and have been happy everytime.

Have a GSA for long distance but felt it was too heavy and expensive for off road. I will use the Terra for exploring 2 track trails in Nevada, So Cal and Utah.
I have plated 3 off road bikes in the past and they were killer off roaders, however they sucked on the street. With those bikes I used to haul ass off road and took a lot of risks. Now I want to slow down and enjoy the scenery and I feel that the Terra will let me do that. Plus, I can ride it on the street and not get beat up.

I have only 100 miles on it and love it so far! First thing I noticed was the bars are too low and the bend doesn't want you to stand up. Easy fix, different bars. Of course off road protection is the next thing. Skid plate, radiator guard and handguards are a must have before I take it off road. I've bought AltRider farkles for my GSA and the fit and finish of their stuff is awesome. They are in development of a skid plate and radiator guard so I will get them when they are available.

Tires are another thing. I want a 50/50 tire so I will try some TKC80's and see how that works out.

That's really it for right now. I will post some pics later and post when I start tricking it out.

Welcome Robert,
You got a great bike. Motosportz has the handlebar risers to accommodate fat bars which several of us have posted pics of and a killer skid plate. He is on here of course and has a thread for the items avail. Was just out your way about 2 weeks ago. I was "trapped" in town but sooo wanted to get out and up into the hills. NExt time perhaps. Welcome and congrats on the Terra.

Hi all,
My first post and first Husky also. Bought my Terra at Moore and Sons in Santa Cruz, CA. MSRP without a big rip-off setup fee. Mine was second-shipment so the lean/stall was already fixed. Liking it so far - I wanted a mid-sized bike that was no more than about 400 lbs wet - so it was between the Terra and a used SV650 std. The unpaved-road capability is what drew me to pay the extra bucks for a new bike - much more versatile, but still hiway capable. I'm especially liking the power - I'm going to keep the stock rear tire and put a more agressive DOT off-road tire on the front, cycra hand guards - modify the kick-stand for stronger lock-down position, and see what's out there for engine protection.

Tom

Post when & where you bought it. Then a brief description of riding habits on it: commuter, or adventure. Also how mamy miles & any hiccups you've had with it.

Hello fellow Husqvarnians, First post here. I purchased my Terra December 22nd from MotoCity in Avondale Arizona. 2 months ago I purchased a 2012 TE310 from there, after laying down a mere 33 miles on it I decided to go to more of a street than dirt bike dual sport, posted it up for sale and acutally received a call about it on my way in to trade it in on the Terra, everyting worked out, buyer met me at the shop, he paid me, I paid the dealer for my new Terra. I'll be using it for commuting occasionally and forest road travels. I have only one ride so far, I am experiencing the off idle stall and will re visit the shop once time allows. I do have a question that the experts here can answer for me, what does the "mode" button do? The manual says nothing about it. I'm enjoying reading the posts on this forum and looking forward to many more.

Hey, i was the first guy ! I live by sfo, but my bike is being transported up to the cabin near twain harte /yosemite / sonora. The forest trails closed dec 15, but i will bomb around the hood in the cold. Santa just brought the accessory plug attachment for the heated jacket, and maybe the dealer will have the heated grips soon. I will try to test the electrical system, i guess.
