    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Found two different 8" HID race lights on the market and am wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these?


Baja Designs single 8" HID
-Single light frame made of 1/2" Chromoly-Steel alloy.

Constructed using high quality automotive components.
The frame is extremely light – less than 4 pounds for motorcycles and less than 5 pounds for ATV's.

Also, has anyone determined what the stator output is on the 08 TE 250,450,510 serices yet?
 
The main difference will be weight and maybe slightly the overall beefyness.

If you are racing baja at 100mph the Baja Designs model will probably survive a crash, at least thats what its designed for.

The Trailtech is gonna be lighter and while still very very capable, it might be less able to survive high speed crashes.

I race baja, but i dont crash. :eek:

If i lived in San Deigo and rode baja all night i would buy the BD model as a backup or for fun riding.
If i lived in Seattle and rode woods all night i would buy the TT model as a backup or for fun riding.

Either are VERY GOOD units.

Anyone who has ridden fast/raced at night can tell ya as soon as ya hit the front brake hard, panic breaking, its all dark out. For fast riding/racing ya need two lights-either a second light thats helmet mounted or dual bike mounted, preferably on top of each other. Just FYI if you are buying this for racing.

The 35 watt HID uses the same amount of power as the OEM Husky light, no need for a stator upgrade. '08 bikes put out about 100watts dedicated to the dc side for lights, pump, etc, excluding ignition. Hope that helps. :thumbsup:
 
I have a brand new BD and have never used it (exactly like the top one posted). :excuseme: Mounted up an trailtech X2 HID and never looked back.
 
I got to see that X2 up close and personal yesterday on Kelly's bike and his buddy Ken's Gas Gas 300! Wow, those are some serious flame throwers...very nice! I gotta' get one.
